Wide Left Podcast: ESPN's Trey Wingo Talks Tebow, Super Bowl Contenders, & More

Trey Wingo is one of the best people in sports media, and that's not just flattery because he indulges my ridiculous theories regarding the NFL. Well, that doesn't hurt.
We talk about a host of topics on this show, including the most surprising storylines of the NFL season. Is it Cam Newton's dominance or Tim Tebow's late-game heroics? Is it the fact that the Packers are still undefeated or the fact that the 49ers are possibly the second-best team in football (they earn that distinction, at the very least, by their 10-2 record).

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
We mention the ESPN Chicago report about Brett Favre's willingness to listen to the Bears before talking about how sick we are of talking about Favre and how ridiculous it is that we're talking about people talking about Favre talking about a comeback. Talk about crazy!
We do entertain the idea of Donovan McNabb going to Chicago...or anywhere. Is that a good fit for him (answer: no) or will McNabb's next gig be sitting next to Wingo on the set of NFL Live?
We talk about Roger Goodell's autonomy and wonder how the NFLPA didn't negotiate a new appeals process during the lockout.
We talk about Jason Garrett's asinine use of timeouts and wonder if icing his own kicker could eventually lead to losing his job (if the Cowboys don't make the playoffs). And we get into a bit of a rant about coaches' continually abhorrent use of timeouts. Why don't teams have a timeout guy? There's a guy for everything!
We talk about DeSean Jackson's season and compare to Matt Forte. Which multi-talented superstar would you rather pay big bucks to have on your team next year? Leave the on-field performance aside, how much money has Jackson lost with his off-the-field antics the last few weeks?
I ask Wingo if the NFL had a system like the BCS where we just arbitrarily picked the best two teams, who would play against Green Bay? He first said the Steelers – have at him, Ravens fans – before mentioning the 49ers because they have the second-best record. Still, Wingo thinks the Steelers are set up for another deep playoff run, calling for a Super Bowl rematch.
I said the Saints, because they have one fewer loss than the 49ers but had to play on the road at Green Bay. If the NFL were the BCS, we'd be looking at a rematch for the title there as well.
It's that and a lot more fun. Please listen, share and leave comments. Thanks.
