Brett Favre: QB's Pointless Retirement Statement Shows Lust for Spotlight
It is partly our faults, but largely Brett Favre himself is to blame for the biggest example of over-coverage in the last 20 years of sports.
The Favre saga never seems to go away. Just when you think it has—boom—he releases a statement, a text message, picture message or something.
Favre can't get enough of the spotlight, and considering I'm writing this, I suppose we can't get enough of him, either.

The Favre rumors have gone from nauseating to just plain ridiculous. Most recently, the Favre-ulous camp leaked that Brett would listen if the Chicago Bears called him about their QB vacancy.
Lovie Smith promptly squashed that by declaring in his customary monotone, southern drawl "these are our guys, and we're all going to get better."
Favre-apalooza was squelched before it began, but ole Brett couldn't let that be the end of it. He then released a statement claiming, in so many words, I didn't want your stinking QB job anyway, culminating with him sticking out his tongue.
Well, not exactly. More specifically, he said:
"“Inspite [sic] of reports about playing with various teams, I’m enjoying retirement with my family and have no plans to play football,”
"
Same thing, right?
Brett, if you're retired, just be retired. Stop making a spectacle of non-issues. A retort to a lack of interest just shows that Favre's lust for spotlight is about as strong as his golden arm, but far less appealing.
