Fantasy Football Week 17 Rankings: Team Defense

One of the most intriguing games this week will feature the one where little defense will be played when the Denver Broncos play at the San Diego Chargers. That’s going to make up for the lack of interesting defensive match ups we had last week, some of which were bigger eye-openers than we could’ve imagined.

Who knew the Carolina Panthers would be able to gash the New York Giants for four rushing touchdowns, only to give away the game in the fourth quarter and overtime because they couldn’t stop the run?

For those of you still playing we bring to you the Bruno Boys Week 17 Team Defense Rankings.

Before we head into the article, we would like to explain the “Bruno Boys Star System.”

1. Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cleveland

The Cleveland Browns are expected to start Bruce Gradkowski at quarterback, and he’ll be there fourth player the team has started at the position this season. Furthermore, Gradkowski has only been on the team for a couple weeks now so expect some sloppy play from the Browns offense. Playing against the league’s toughest defense will only make it worse for Cleveland and Gradkowski.

2. Baltimore Ravens vs. Jacksonville

This isn’t a tough one to figure out. The Baltimore Ravens are in a must-win situation while the season has been over for a few weeks now for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars are 24th in the league in points scored and don’t excel in passing or running the ball so it will be a good week for the Baltimore defense.

3. Atlanta Falcons vs. St. Louis

The St. Louis Rams have one of the worst offenses in the NFL as they’ve scored an average of 12.2 points in their last five games and rank 31st in the league in points scored this season. In the last two games the Atlanta Falcons have caused five turnovers in recording consecutive double-digit fantasy performances.

4. Miami Dolphins @ New York Jets

The New York Jets have become fairly predictable on offense in the second half of the season. Furthermore, shoulder troubles have severely limited quarterback Brett Favre’s ability to throw deep. The Miami Dolphins are 11th in the league in points allowed so expect another good performance from them this week.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Oakland

The Oakland Raiders managed to score 27 points last week against an overmatched Houston Texans team but the bottom line is that this is still one of the worst offenses in the NFL. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are fifth in passing yards allowed, ninth in total yards allowed, and seventh in points allowed so expect a good performance against the Raiders.

6. Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit

There’s no way the Green Bay Packers defense will be mistaken for those in Pittsburgh or Baltimore this season but it has a favorable match up this week against the Detroit Lions. Detroit managed to score just seven points last week against a soft New Orleans Saints defense. Furthermore, the game is going to be played in Lambeau Field in some poor weather conditions so expect a solid week from the Green Bay defense.

7. Tennessee Titans @ Indianapolis

With Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning expected to take a seat after the first quarter and give way to backup Jim Sorgi, the Tennessee Titans defense should enjoy a good week. The only thing keeping the Titans from being ranked as a five-star team this week is that they also have nothing to play for and will likely rest some of their defensive players.
