It's Not Yet 2009: Looking Back On Fall Of 2008
The day after Christmas is, at least for me, the best time of the year. All those gifts to enjoy, all your family to see, and the best thing of all: college football and the NFL playoffs.
B/R was pretty inactive this Christmas, as could be expected, with only the NBA community having anything to write about. But now as we approach New Year's Eve, everyone is getting ready for the next year of sports.
A great year of sports await,
but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Let's go back and remember
what happened in the last few months of 2008...
'Twas the day after Christmas
and all through the site,
B/R members were preparing,
for a new year of articles to write.
For the 2009 sports,
the expectations have been set.
Avid sports players
are getting ready for another year of sweat.
Oklahoma with their Heisman Winner,
Florida with their own Heisman, Tebow.
Practice for the great championship
both offenses all set to go.
When out in the press,
there arose such a problem.
The ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Big East, and Pac-10
turned to see what was the big mess.
It went on for months,
just growing faster and faster.
But then the yell just turned out to be
another BCS disaster.
Over in the NFL,
While the Broncos' lead in the AFC West
had turned to nothing,
the Titans and Giants were turning out to be the best.
Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Carolina turning out pretty good,
but Dallas and Philly weren't doing as well as they could.
Top NFL writers knew this all along,
but other sportswriters have to refocus after the holidays.
Zander is watching to see
B/R's members go their separate ways:
"Now, Sean! Now, Angel!"
The NFL playoffs are waiting!
"Now, Erick and Andrew!"
Watch out for those Celtics!
"On, Alan! On, Ken!"
How is the NHL over there?
"On, Lisa and BabyTate!"
Who will win the messed-up BCS?
"And don't forget about Jameson and Lew!"
Is North Carolina actually overrated?
To the top of the writer rankings,
to the top of the sport!
"Now write away! Write away!
Write away, all!"
As info that before
the collection of articles collect.
When they meet a talented sportswriter,
they grow as intriguing facts.
So up to the top of writer rankings,
the writers went.
With the collection of facts
and opinions, too!
And then, on the rink,
I heard a loud smash.
The crunching and crunching
of an Islander against the glass.
NYI may be struggling,
but SJ is looking like the next dynasty.
While Boston is unbeatable at home,
Dallas continues to disappoint.
He was dressed in Carolina blue,
and nobody could match his skill.
UNC is rocking the college basketball world,
and UConn is moving in for the kill!
A bunch of cash,
safe on their back.
The Yankees can't stop buying
all the stars back.
2009 is waiting for it's time,
and everyone wants to get their New Year's dime.
But I wanted to look back on autumn 2008
with a little rhyme.
