Can Arsenal Get Revenge Against Aston Villa Without Cesc Fabregas?

Callum D'SouzaDec 25, 2008

The last time Arsenal and Aston Villa met earlier this season, Arsenal were in high hopes. They had just come from a spectacular win over rivals Manchester United and were full of confidence. They played some magnificent football against Manchester but it all disappeared against Villa. Arsenal disappointed a home crowd by playing awful football which inevitably led to a 2-0 home defeat.

Aston Villa are currently sitting in the position Arsenal should be in, fourth. An Arsenal loss could mean missing out on an Champions League birth which is a massive disappointment for the whole Arsenal community. A win is so vital as it may just keep the Gunners in the title race and it will also put them in a reasonably good position for the new year which is always vital.

It will be tough for Arsene Wenger and his troops as they are missing two key players: their captain and midfielding maestro Cesc Fabregas and their tall and strong striker Emmanuel Adebayor. Both play huge roles in the Arsenal attack and both are senior players.

This leaves a big, gaping hole in the Arsenal midfield which is vital if Arsenal want the three points. Either Abou Diaby, Denilson, or Aaron Ramsey will fill the role, personally I would love to see Aaron Ramsey the 18 year old Welshmen who has bags of talent. Ramsey more than deserves his chance to shine and I have a feeling Ramsey will step up and perform like Fabregas does.

Robin van Persie should hopefully get the striking role and Nicklas Bendter will remain on the bench. This is a good move to have van Persie upfront by himself as he has a good work ethic and will see more ball which is exactly what Arsenal need as he has been so dominant this year up front, which is evident as he is Arsenal's top scorer.

Arsenal will most likely go with the 4-5-1 which means the midfield has to perform defensively and attackingly. The defence has a huge job trying to contain the likes of Ashley Young, John Carew and Gabriel Abonglahor who have all been so dominant.

Ashley Young will be the biggest threat as his pace is such a hard trait to defend. Bacary Sanga will most likely to be marking him which is a good option as the Frenchmen has a tendency to keep the big guns quiet and uninvolved.

A tough challenge for Arsenal so we will have to see what happens.
