Bucs Defensive Backs Coach Morris Named New Defensive Coordinator

NFLGridironGabSenior Analyst IDecember 26, 2008

The Buccaneers today made it a very Merry Christmas for Raheem Morris, naming him as the team's new defensive coordinator. Morris will replace Monte Kiffin, who is leaving to coach with his son, Lane, at the University of Tennessee.

Morris, who has been the Bucs' secondary coach each of the two years he's been with the team, is now in his second stint with the Bucs and will take over as the defensive mastermind beginning in 2009. Monte Kiffin had been with the Bucs since 1996, when he was hired into the position of defensive coordinator by former coach Tony Dungy.

The one interesting piece about Morris is his name is already being mentioned for possible head coaching jobs around the league. So while he is the Bucs' new D coordinator today, Morris may get an even bigger promotion in a few weeks.
