5 NFL Teams That Have Quit on Their Coaches
The 2011 NFL regular season is winding down, and while some teams are still playing inspired football regardless of their record (such as the Miami Dolphins, who rolled the Oakland Raiders Sunday), others seem to be playing like they can't start their offseason vacations quickly enough.
Here's a look at a handful of such teams, rosters filled with millionaire players who have apparently turned their backs on each other, their coaches, and their fans.
1. Jacksonville Jaguars
1 of 5It may not exactly be fair to include the Jaguars on this list since head coach Jack Del Rio was fired earlier this week, but I wouldn't advise holding your breath waiting for the Jaguars to come out fired up for the sake of an interim coach just playing out the string.
Seriously, breathe...you're turning blue.
2. San Diego Chargers
2 of 5The San Diego Chargers haven't won a football game since the week before their bye, which wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that their bye was in Week 6.
If head coach Norv Turner survives this debacle, it will be a miracle, and his players certainly haven't been doing much of anything that qualifies as miraculous lately.
3. Washington Redskins
3 of 5This isn't so much an indictment of the Redskins as quitters, as Washington beat a game Seattle Seahawks squad in Week 12 before falling to the New York Jets Sunday.
This is more a request if you will. Please, fellas, quit on Mike Shanahan. You will win the love of fantasy football owners everywhere.
Down with Shanihanigans!
4. Indianapolis Colts
4 of 5I honestly don't know if the Indianapolis Colts have quit on head coach Jim Caldwell, as the Colts put forth a solid effort in losing their twelfth straight game to the New England Patriots Sunday.
However, if the Colts haven't quit on Caldwell, they should, as he's probably the worst head coach in the National Football League.
5. Philadelphia Eagles
5 of 5Ah, where to begin?
A defense that tackles like a bad Pop Warner team? Check.
A star wide receiver that decided the best way to secure a big contract was to gripe incessantly about it and then just stop running routes altogether? Check.
The most bizarre thing about the nightmare that has been the 2011 season for the Philadelphia Eagles is that there's a very real chance that head coach Andy Reid will somehow survive it.
