Never has the league table looked so intriguing at Christmas. Never has the league been so unpredictable.

Hull scoring three at Old Trafford? Chelsea winning eight on the spin away from home? Man City on the brink of a crisis?

Nobody could have written this script and it is unlikely that even Nostradamus would be saying "I told you so" in five months' time.
