Top Destinations for Donovan McNabb's Dwindling Talents
Donovan McNabb was benched by the Minnesota Vikings after starting the season 1-5.
Why the Vikings stuck with him as long as they did was always a mystery, and now, they're severing ties completely.
According to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter, the Vikings plan to cut the veteran quarterback loose.
There is absolutely no reason to be surprised by this.
In fact, the surprising thing is that we actually have to talk about where he might go next.
Here are some possible landing spots for the former No. 2 overall pick.
Chicago Bears
1 of 5It is painful to consider this a possibility because of the ineptitude with which McNabb led the Vikings offense earlier this season, but it has to be mentioned.
Every time McNabb's future comes up, we always talk about Chicago because that is where he is from.
The Bears are now fighting for their playoff lives without starting quarterback Jay Cutler, and it is a legitimate problem.
It is doubtful there will be much interest from Chicago. They were the last team McNabb played against before he saddled up on the pine pony. It was actually his best game of the year, but the Vikings were blown out by 29 points. Enough said.
Houston Texans
2 of 5Does T.J. Yates over Donovan McNabb actually makes sense?
We'll find out.
Coach Gary Kubiak is a Mike Shanahan guy and will certainly make a phone call about whether or not this is worth considering.
In fact, knowing that Shanahan went away from him may have said all he needs to know.
It may seem like a smart move, but don't be surprised if the Texans take no interest in McNabb.
Dallas Cowboys
3 of 5Dallas has cropped up as an ideal backup spot.
According to Adam Schefter, the Cowboys hold a higher waiver priority than the Bears right now.
Of all the teams mentioned so far, this makes possibly the most sense.
McNabb wouldn't be a starter, but is a backup with experience in the division and knows about the postseason.
He won't replace Tony Romo, but he might be worth the insurance policy over Stephen McGee should John Kitna miss more time. They did put in a claim on Kyle Orton.
Retirement
4 of 5There is no way around this one.
The former Eagles, Redskins and now Vikings quarterback has been benched in favor of Kevin Kolb, Rex Grossman and now Christian Ponder.
Ponder's career is just starting, and there is no shame in that, but there are little-to-no kind words worth offering for Kolb and Grossman.
McNabb was once a fine quarterback in the NFL. He's no Brett Favre, though, and this charade of pretending he's a starting caliber quarterback needs to end.
Insane Honorable Mention Possibilities
5 of 5There is no basis of truth for any of these possibilities.
This is simply exploring the insane, and Donovan McNabb claims, "I know I have a lot of football left in me."
Detroit Lions: Matthew Stafford's health is always a question mark, and going into the postseason (if they make it), it wouldn't hurt to have someone on the roster who has been there.
Indianapolis Colts: In case the Colts think Dan Orlovsky might actually win one or two games, the Colts could plug McNabb in to lose them. Andrew Luck is so close for them to blow it now.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Just to stay in the news for one more day.
Toronto Argonauts: The second-worst team in the CFL did sign Ricky Williams when he needed a place to crash.
Saskatchewan Roughriders: They were actually worse than the Argonauts.
