Auburn Tigers' Biggest Targets: Recruiting for NCAA Football 2012

Edwin WeathersbyNov 30, 2011

Earlier this year, I predicted Auburn would have an off year on the trail. I just felt that with so much young talent on the roster, recruits would get scared away. I was wrong. Mightily wrong.

Auburn has 15 commitments, with 11 of their recruits being 4-star or higher players. The Tigers have gotten great quality in this class and the scary thing is they are not done yet.

Here is the latest on the War Eagle's biggest remaining targets.

Jones Likes Atmosphere on the Plains

1 of 6

Cyrus Jones, a 5'11", 185-pound speedster that can play WR, RB, DB and returner recently tripped to Auburn and had a great time. He enjoyed the atmosphere there and now has Auburn in his top three.

Alabama was his leader, but the Auburn visit has shaken things up. Jones also likes Virginia Tech a lot too.

With such a great visit, Auburn looks to be right in the thick of it for Jones. A decision will likely be coming before Christmas.

Much Needed to Pry Davis from Stanford

2 of 6

Auburn is recruiting LB Noor Davis, a 6'4", 225-pound second-level defender that is committed to Stanford. Davis recently took a trip to USC and is being pressed by Trojan commits Jordan Simmons and Jabari Ruffin.

Auburn hosted Davis for a visit earlier this fall and so has Alabama, Florida and Stanford. Notre Dame is also a school Davis was considering.

Yet, Davis told Scout.com that he is firm with Stanford and it's going to take a lot to get him to de-commit.

Decision Coming from the Freak in Early January

3 of 6

5-star DE Jordan Jenkins is the best player in Georgia this year. The 6'3", 250-pounder can play DE or OLB. He has a core list of Alabama, Florida, Auburn and Georgia among others.

Jenkins has two in-home visits today with Alabama and Georgia. Auburn will likely try to find a spot to get some of the Jenkins' family cooking soon too.

A decision from Jenkins is likely due in early January.

Auburn Only School Ward Has Visited

4 of 6

Channing Ward, the 6'4", 250-pound DE/OLB prospect from Mississippi, has played things close and tight. Yet, he did take a trip to Auburn on Halloween weekend.

Ole Miss and Mississippi State are the schools that could be in the driver's seat due to his desire to stay in-state. However, LSU is also a school Ward has admired.

But then again, it speaks volumes when Ward has taken a trip to Auburn.

Auburn Looking Good for Young

5 of 6

Earlier today, I did a piece on prospects that likely won't commit until signing day. I should have added Avery Young to that list as that day is also when we will know where the 6'6", 275-pound OT is going.

A short time ago, Young had Auburn as his leader, but Alabama and Florida have also received visits. Georgia will host him on December 9th and he'll take his 5th trip after Christmas time.

Auburn has to keep on the big OT prospect, but their chances look good.

Alexander Can Envision Himself as a Tiger

6 of 6

Kwon Alexander, the 5-star OLB prospect from Alabama and one the top 10 overall players in the country, took a trip to The Plains this past weekend. It went really, really well.

Alexander told Scout.com afterwards that he can see himself playing at Auburn and getting time as a true freshman. Freshman LB Jawara White was his host, and the family atmosphere appealed to him the most.

I've said for quite some time that the defensive scheme at Auburn fits Alexander better than the 3-4 scheme at Alabama. Couple that with the great time Alexander had on his visit, and it's safe to say the Tigers look good right now.
