NBA Rumors: Josh Is the Wrong Howard for the Bulls to Have Interest in

Brian MaziqueNov 30, 2011

Josh Howard? Really?

That was my reaction when ESPN's Chris Broussard reported the Bulls' interest in the veteran swingman. However far-fetched it may be, the only Howard the Bulls should be interested in is much bigger and currently plays in Orlando.

Josh Howard is more of a natural small forward than two guard—he could actually spell Luol Deng to limit his minutes—but this is does not equal a significant upgrade at the Bulls' most needed position.

In addition to that, Howard is 31 and injury prone. He has not played a full season yet in his career. The Bulls' attraction to him is based on low asking price and versatility. Neither is worth much if he spends a ton of time shelved.

Another concern is attitude. Howard has not always been painted as the model citizen. That is a far cry from what the Bulls have looked for when acquiring players over the past 10 years.

I understand that there comes a time when you have to take a chance on a different type of personality, but is Josh Howard worth that risk?

Not hardly.

This direction is a little worrisome for Bulls fans, as it appears the team is going to go bargain basement shopping for any possible moves. This is certainly not the type of move that will vault the Bulls past the Miami Heat.

Hopefully, this type of potential acquisition is a secondary move to one far more substantial.
