Week 13 Start Em Sit Em: Ben Roethlisberger and Others You Must Bench

Zach KruseNov 30, 2011

In Week 13 of the NFL season, the following players should find a spot on your fantasy football bench:

Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers: In his first game since fracturing his thumb, Roethlisberger threw for just 193 yards and a score against the Chiefs. Could the thumb be the issue? The Bengals held him to his fourth lowest fantasy-point total three weeks ago.

Philip Rivers, Chargers: Gone are the days when Rivers is a must-start every week. He didn't throw any interceptions against the Broncos last week, but Rivers failed to crack 200 yards. The Jaguars are the No. 6 ranked fantasy defense against quarterbacks this season.

Cedric Benson, Bengals: Benson is coming off a 100-yard game last week, but the Steelers haven't allowed the century mark to an opposing back since Week 6. Pittsburgh also held Benson to just 57 yards when the two teams first met.

Toby Gerhart, Vikings: Adrian Peterson is likely out again this week with a bum ankle, so Gerhart stands to get 15 or more carries again against the Broncos. Still, the Broncos have been tough against the run in recent weeks, and Percy Harvin is taking away some of Gerhart's goal line opportunities.

Sidney Rice, Seahawks: Rice suffered his second concussion of the season last week, making it unlikely that he'll play this week. To be on the safe side, keep the concussed Rice on your fantasy bench.

Andre Johnson, Texans: The talent here is huge, but know that Johnson saw only three targets last week and now has a third-string quarterback throwing him the football. The Texans are going to ride the run game and defense to cover their deficiencies at quarterback.

Anquan Boldin, Ravens: The Browns are No. 1 in the NFL in passing yards allowed, and top cornerback Joe Haden has turned into a shutdown-type guy. Boldin might struggle to find space in this matchup.
