Georgia vs LSU: Tigers Defense Will Carry Them to Blow out Victory

T.J. McaloonNov 30, 2011

The SEC Championship game, over the last two years, has been an SEC West domination over the SEC East. This year will continue in the trend, as the SEC East champion Georgia Bulldogs are no match for the SEC West champion LSU Tigers.

Yes, the LSU passing game has struggled this year, as they are ranked 100th in the NCAA. Their inability to throw the ball has not held the Tigers from finishing with a perfect record.

Instead, the Tigers have been able to rely on their running game, which averages 216 yards a game, good enough for 18th in NCAA. In addition, they have a defense that has destroyed every team that has played against this juggernaut.

The Bulldogs come into this SEC Championship game with one heck of a balanced offensive attack. Their 243 passing yards gives them the 47th passing offense in the NCAA. However, when LSU was faced against the 12th ranked passing attack of Arkansas last week, they shut them down completely.

Before Arkansas played LSU, the Razorbacks were averaging over 300 yards passing per game. Against the Tigers, Arkansas was only able to muster 207 passing yards for the game.

However, Georgia boasts a running game that comes in ranked 36th in the NCAA averaging 181 yards per game. If LSU does shut down the Bulldogs passing game surely they can lean on their running game, right?

Wrong.

When LSU was faced against a dominant running game in their epic showdown against Alabama, they contained Heisman Trophy candidate Trent Richardson to only 89 yards. They were able to hold Richardson without a touchdown and to his lowest average yards per carry against an SEC team.

Georgia is led by freshman Isaiah Crowell who has had a great season, but is coming into this game with a bad ankle. Even if Crowell was at 100 percent, he would have been slowed down by this Tigers defense. Now with a bad ankle, it limits his chances at being a factor at all in this game.

LSU is one of the most complete teams in college football this year. They will run your defense into the ground, while crushing anything that an opposing offense can try to do.

This SEC Championship game will be close, but in the end it will be LSU with another double-digit victory.
