Tis the Season: 10 NFL Games in December That Will Have HUGE Playoff Implication
There are multiple NFL teams that have basically wrapped up their playoff spot, such as the Green Bay Packers who are 11-0. However, there are many teams still in the hunt and December is the time for them to either remain in playoff contention or let one of the other teams gain their spot.
There are 10 games that I found within the remaining 64 games that everyone should pay attention to.
Philadelphia at Seattle, December 1
1 of 10The Philadelphia Eagles have a short week this week and they face a dreadful Seattle Seahawks' offense that is very inconsistent. The Eagles need a big win after a crushing 38-20 loss to the New England Patriots this past Sunday.
The loss should motivate them to get back to winning and they need to win their remaining five games to even have a shot at making the postseason now as they are three games behind the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East.
Detroit at New Orleans, December 4
2 of 10Ndamukong Suh could be out a couple weeks due to a suspension, but the Detroit Lions need a big win after losing to the Packers in Week 12.
The New Orleans Saints are 8-3 and, with a win over the Saints, the Lions could find themselves a playoff spot due to being tied for a wild-card spot with the Atlanta Falcons and the Chicago Bears.
Denver at Minnesota, December 4
3 of 10The Denver Broncos are now 5-1 thanks to a huge 16-13 overtime win over the San Diego Chargers that put them over .500 for the first time in 2011 at 6-5. The Broncos head to Minnesota to face the Vikings who are 2-9 on the season and do not have a team identity.
The Broncos are one game behind a wild-card spot and one game out of winning the AFC West. They need this win to continue the great tale of Tim Tebow.
Chicago at Denver, December 11
4 of 10The Chicago Bears could not handle the Oakland Raiders in Week 12 and lost 25-20 and hopefully they can win against Kansas City in Week 13.
This Week 14 matchup we'll see just how good Tim Tebow and the Broncos can be. If their offense can do well against a stingy Bears' defense, then Tebow could find himself as the starting quarterback for the Broncos for a long time.
Oakland at Green Bay, December 11
5 of 10The Oakland Raiders have been playing very tough and gritty football and need to play well against the undefeated Packers to show how they stack up against the elite teams in the NFC.
The Raiders also need to make sure they do not falter too much since the Broncos are right on their tails in the AFC West.
NY Giants at Dallas, December 11
6 of 10The Dallas Cowboys just barely beat the Miami Dolphins in Week 12, and in Week 14 they face the New York Giants in a showdown for the NFC East. There is no doubt in my mind that the Giants will play their best game of the season against the Cowboys.
This will be the first of two games against the Cowboys for the Giants and it will be a tough task to win both games against the NFC East leaders.
NY Jets at Philadelphia, December 18
7 of 10Mark Sanchez is the key guy to lead the New York Jets back to the postseason this season, but can he beat an Eagles' team that is trying to get back to .500 and win the NFC East. I don't know if they can.
Michael Vick should be back by this game and who knows what he will be able to do against the Jets defense. I expect this to be a close game and the Eagles pull off a win to pull closer to the NFC East lead.
New England at Denver. December 18
8 of 10The Patriots defense will have to play considerably better by the time they face the Broncos or else Tebow will run right over them.
The Broncos don't absolutely need this win to make the playoffs, but it doesn't hurt to have a big win over one of the better clubs in the AFC.
Philadelphia at Dallas, Sat December 24
9 of 10Against the Cowboys, McCoy will carry the workload and will score twice and bring the Eagles playoff dreams even closer to a reality. With only one week remaining after this game, the Eagles could be in a tie for the NFC East title with a win over the Cowboys.
Atlanta at New Orleans, December 26
10 of 10Matt Ryan and the Altanta Falcons have to bring their A-game if they want to defeat the Saints in New Orleans. This game could mean a wild-card spot or even winning the NFC South title.
The Falcons need to make sure their defense and offense are clicking on all cylinders and pull out a big win in the biggest game left for the Falcons in the 2011-12 season.
