NBA Rumors: LA Lakers' Push for Dwight Howard and Chris Paul Is Pipe Dream

Gabe ZaldivarNov 29, 2011

Well, now that's just silly.

Allow me to start this article with an expression of frustration and annoyance: WTF. There. Now that we have that out of our system we can move on.

Mark Heisler, who covered the Lakers beat for years, now writes for Sheridan Hoops. In his report Monday, Heisler reported the Lakers were keen on trading for Chris Paul and Dwight Howard. Notice that I didn't utter the word either, nor did I use the word or. They like them both, and they want them, both

That tall tale is not nearly as farfetched as it might seem. The report asserts the following which should pique the attention of every last person wearing purple and gold right now.

"

If Dwight Howard and Chris Paul wind up on the market — a safe assumption as far as I’m concerned — the Lakers could offer Andrew Bynum for Dwight and Pau Gasol for CP3, or vice versa. Nothing says that they will be enough to land either player, but it should put the Lakers in the running for both.

"

The fact is Howard is rather keen on Los Angeles, as well as running beside Kobe Bryant. The Magic would take Bynum over just about any other piece of trash they would be offered.

I don't see how the Hornets can turn down a player like Pau Gasol either. When you look quickly, this looks like a couple of trades that are extremely possible.

Now for the reality check. Chris Paul will hem and haw as he really wants to play for the New York Knicks. There is a good chance that he would throw a wrench into any trade to Los Angeles when his buddies are in Manhattan.

The other hiccup comes in the form of the Orlando Magic who are just naive enough to believe Howard may re-sign with them when the time comes. Such ignorance is beyond lovable.

Their rice for Howard may be too steep for teams to actually pull the trigger on Howard, especially the Lakers. You have to consider that this teams doesn't have to make any moves. They are still built to win and don't need another superstar coming in to muck things up.

This is a fantastic rumor that would be among the biggest trades in league history. However, they are nothing more than fanciful tales to daydream to.
