College Football Recruiting 2012: 10 Bold Predictions for National Signing Day
Please remember the taste and theme of the series, as it's more of a light-hearted, what-if, thinking-out-loud, crazy-thought-type of series.
Just going to give you a couple crazy predictions that could happen on or around signing day. Feel free to add any that you have in the comment sections.
We've had some crazy predictions in this series, and I just had 10 more that came to me recently that I need to get out there...
10. Quay Evans Hears Tuscaloosa Chanting His Name
1 of 10When Evans took a visit to Alabama earlier this fall, he was amazed by the crowd noise and passion of the fans in Tuscaloosa. He says the stadium was loud and loved it.
On NSD, Evans will be stuck between signing with 'Bama or Mississippi State. The whole city of Tuscaloosa will begin chanting his name, and Evans will hear it all the way from Mississippi and sign with Alabama because of it.
9. Jordan Payton Tells USC He Was Just Kidding, Trojans Have No Room Left
2 of 10Jordan Payton has a core four of Notre Dame, Michigan, Cal and Arizona State, but he was once a solid pledge to USC.
On NSD, Payton will call Lane Kiffin and say "I was just kidding coach, I'm a Trojan."
Kiffin will then say, "Sorry, we have no more room left in our class, would you like to grey shirt?"
8. Bo Pelini Says Andrus and Todd Are Twins
3 of 10Todd Peat is the brother of 5-star OT Andrus Peat and a DT at Nebraska. Andrus has Big Red high on his list, and I think they land him.
At his NSD presser, Bo Pelini will announce his 2012 recruiting class. Due to lack of sleep, stress and a maybe even a brain fart, Peilini will forget Todd and Andrus are not the same age but remember they're brothers and say, "We signed Todd's twin brother, Andrus."
7. Mike Sherman Compares Trey Williams to Darren Sproles
4 of 10National Signing Day will come, and we will see Trey Williams sign with Texas A&M. I like the jitterbug, but he's just about 5'7" and 175 pounds.
When asked why he signed a RB that small, Mike Sherman will clear his throat and say "Cue tape!" and a screen will drop down behind him.
On that screen, you will see highlight of New Orleans Sants RB Darren Sproles. At the end of the highlight reel, Sherman will speak into the mic and ask, "Any questions?"
6. Bart Houston Signs His LOI with a Stack of Flash Cards Next to Him
5 of 10Bart Houston is a 4-star QB on track to sign with Wisconsin next February. That's great as he could indeed compete for the starting job, as a derby will be ran to see who replaces Russell Wilson.
When he signs his LOI, reporters will ask Houston, "Hey Bart, what's with flashcards, you studying for a big test?"
Houston will reply, "Nope, I'm trying to learn the Wisconsin offense in the same way Russell Wilson did!"
5. Fowler Says He Only Flirted with Florida as a Spy
6 of 10The battle of Florida and Florida State for Dante Fowler is pretty interesting. Fowler would have pledged to Florida last January if Urban Meyer had not resigned, and then committed to Florida State.
But Fowler's pledge to FSU has not stopped his flirting with Florida, and many think he will sign with the Gators.
On NSD, Fowler will claim his flirtation with Florida was to only get an inside look into the program and learn how to beat them as a Seminole.
4. All Four Michigan LB Recruits Say They're the Best in the Class
7 of 10Michigan is on track to sign Royce Jenkins-Stone, James Ross, Kaleb Ringer and Joe Bolden. All four are amongst the top tier LB prospects in the country for 2012.
At some point on NSD, people will ask all four "Which one of you guys is the best incoming LB to Ann Arbor?" The replies will go like this:
Bolden: "Me."
Ringer: "I am."
Jenkins-Stone: "I think I am."
Ross: "Has to be me."
3. Justin Shanks and Dalvon Stuckey Nickname Themselves the Fat Boys
8 of 10Remember in the 1980's, there was the Old School Hip Hop "The Fat Boys." Yeah, I was young, but they had some hot songs, "The faaat boys are baaack"...
Sorry, I'm singing. Anyways, The Fat Boys will return in 2012. To college football that is.
When both players sign with Florida State, 6'4", 320-pound Justin Shanks and 6'3", 310-pound Dalvon Stuckey will nickname their future interior DL tandem "The Fat Boys".
Cue their theme music!
2. Arik Armstead Decides Hoops Is Best for Him, Not Football
9 of 10Arik Armstead is a 6'8", 280-pound DE/DT/OT prospect that Scout.com lists as the No. 1 player in the nation. He's also a pretty good big man in the post as a basketball prospect.
In a shocker on NSD, Armstead will sign with a school, but not to sack QBs.
He's going to decide he wants to play in the NBA one day and will only play basketball in college to save his body.
1. Urban Meyer Resigns from Ohio State
10 of 10Now he's back on the saddle as a head coach at Ohio State, Urban Meyer can do what he loves to do: recruit, yell, coach and also complain a little bit about the state of college football.
Once he finds a way to land a top 25-caliber class for Ohio State in February, he'll resign again.
Meyer will say, "Oh, I was just seeing if I still got it. I mean, I have to help out my kids' youth sports teams, and I also like working at ESPN a lot too."
