NFL Power Rankings Week 13: Which Teams Did ESPN Experts Rank Too Low?

Ryan RudnanskyNov 29, 2011

It's that time of year when we really start seeing teams separate from the pack.

The playoff picture is still bunched up, but that doesn't mean we don't know which teams are inherently better.

It's shaping up to be a tight race the rest of the way, in both the NFC and the AFC, as multiple injuries have changed the season's outlook.

ESPN came out with its latest NFL Power Rankings for Week 13.

Here is my take on the teams that were dropped too far down the totem pole.

3. New England Patriots (No. 6)

The Patriots did lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants, but I still think they're a better team in the long run.

As always, having Tom Brady on your side tends to work wonders, and the Patriots have averaged 36.3 points in their last three wins.

In this time, they've also allowed only 13.0 points per game (although part of that was helped by the fact they had the pleasure of facing the Kansas City Chiefs).

The Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens have the best chance of reaching the Super Bowl from the AFC (I'm giving it to the Ravens right now).

2. Cincinnati Bengals (No. 13)

I know the Bengals haven't really beaten anyone of significance, but you also can't blame them for losing to the San Francisco 49ers, Steelers and Ravens (all by a touchdown or less).

This defense is for real, and the offense is only going to get better behind quarterback Andy Dalton and receiver A.J. Green.

Dropping them all the way down to No. 13, despite the recent struggles of the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions, seems unfair to me.

1. Washington Redskins (No. 23)

OK, I get it, the Redskins are 4-7 and you can't expect them to get a whole lot of respect. But they've also looked much better with quarterback Rex Grossman inserted back into the starting spot and rookie running back Roy Helu proving he belongs in the NFL.

Grossman had a bad first game back against the Miami Dolphins, but he's played well the last two games, losing an overtime squeaker to the Cowboys and defeating the Seattle Seahawks.

If the Redskins can start putting some points on the board, they have the defense to rise.
