NBA Rumors: 3 Teams in Desperate Need of Free Agent David West
Can I interest you in a guaranteed 20-10 player that doesn't complain and only cares about winning that is currently a free agent?
Former New Orleans Hornets forward David West has averaged 16.4 points and 7.6 points in his seven-year career and is looking to cash in big. He opted out of his contract with the Hornets and is trying to secure a huge multi-year deal.
West is coming off ACL surgery, but the doctors have cleared him for all physical activity and it sounds like he will be 100 percent to start the season.
Here are three teams that can afford him under the new CBA agreement and, more importantly, could really use him on the court:
Indiana Pacers
They have money to spend and need a star player to help out Roy Hibbert in the paint. The Chicago Bulls had their way with Indiana in the playoffs because of the complete lack of scoring by their big men.
West would also bring a strong veteran voice to a team that quite frankly is lacking any sort of leadership.
New Jersey Nets
As the franchise transitions to Brooklyn, West would be a great piece to convince star point guard Deron Williams to stick around when his contract expires at the end of the season.
West would bring some much needed rebounding to a team that was led by the one and only, former Mr. Kardashian aka Kris Humphries a year ago. Brook Lopez may have averaged 20.4 points, but was extremely disappointing in the rebounding department, grabbing a mere six in over 35 minutes a game.
West would help change this.
Phoenix Suns
Steve Nash would be the perfect point guard to transition from Paul, and West is more than capable of keeping up with the frenetic pace. West is able to play with his back to the basket around the paint and that would be a welcome addition to a team that has been missing since Amare Stoudemire bolted.
West won’t bring Phoenix a championship, but he’ll keep them highly competitive in the rugged Western Conference.
