Urban Meyer Press Conference Video: Watch OSU Coach Gush over Braxton Miller

Urban Meyer made one thing very clear in his first press conference as Ohio State head coach: He looooves QB Braxton Miller.

What else can you conclude from a comment like this:

"

I just met Braxton, and...that was the highlight of my day. Shaking hands with that good looking quarterback with the nice smile. Very humble player. 

"

He doesn’t even know how to use the correct adjectives to describe him. This is his way of letting the freshman know he’s still going to be the QB at Ohio State and there are no plans to bring in somebody more suited to his style of offense to take over in 2012.

In fact, I think Miller is the perfect QB for Meyer. At 6-3, 210 pounds he is able to carry the ball and racked up 695 yards and seven TDs rushing, while averaging 4.8 yards per attempt despite only starting nine games. He is only hitting on 50 percent of his passes (67-134) and has 997 yards and 11 TDs with four INTs.

He struggles with accuracy, just like a former Meyer disciple that is blowing the minds of NFL fans in Denver. Miller is somebody Meyer can groom and transform into an elite player.

It’s a smart move to gush over him because Meyer instantly has won over the offensive players in the locker room. Miller has terrific charisma and has won over his teammates throughout this season.

This was a transition year for the Buckeyes and going through the bumps and bruises that come with having a freshman QB were clearly felt, but that will only make this team stronger in the future. Kicking Miller out and starting fresh would have essentially rendered the 2011 season meaningless.

Meyer has a lot of work to do between now and next fall, but he passed his first test. Miller is his guy.
