2011 Bowl Projections: Oregon and Wisconsin Are Locks to Tangle in Rose Bowl
Oregon and Wisconsin are guaranteed to play in the Rose Bowl. You might as well print up the tickets and set your travel plans.
We have been flogging the BCS Championship game as the contest that is already set in stone, and it is. However, it's not the only one that would take a nuclear catastrophe to shuffle.
The Rose Bowl is also setting up rather nicely for fans.
Forget Alabama and LSU. I am sure that that game will delight in the importance category. Do we really need another game whose over/under is sure to fall at the 20-point mark... and then come under it?
There will not be any surprises in the Rose Bowl participants. I am confidant that No. 15 Wisconsin will represent the Big Ten after they dispatch No. 13 Michigan State.
I am just as certain that No. 9 Oregon will waltz into the Granddaddy of Them All when the Ducks trounce UCLA. The best part of it all, though, is that this game will actually be entertaining.
You don't have to worry about a game mucked up by defensive measures. We will get a full complement of offensive antics that will have you giggling for days.
Wisconsin vs. Michigan State: Here is a grudge match that will be tightly contested, but will go Wisconsin's way this time around.
Consider that the Spartans needed a Hail Mary of magical proportions to upset Wisconsin and ruin the Badgers' title hopes in October. The Spartans still have no answer for the one-two punch established by Montee Ball and Russell Wilson.
In a game that will be determined by offense, I will take Wisconsin every time.
UCLA vs. Oregon: The Bruins really should just be happy to be here. With USC still suffering sanctions, UCLA gets the nod to get trounced once again.
Last week, we saw how stout they were on defense, as USC messed around and dropped 50 points on them.
This will get ugly fast.
So, it's on to the Rose Bowl for Wisconsin and Oregon. No need to play the games this week, folks.
