BCS Rankings: Ranking the One Loss Teams

This year of college football has been very exciting because there seems to be an upset every week. Now we have one team that is undefeated and five teams with one loss.

The LSU Tigers may be the undisputed No. 1, but No. 2? That's another story. Alabama, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Virginia Tech and Boise State are all strong one loss teams with a case to make. Oh, and then there's 12-0 Houston, but that's another conversation for another day.

For now, let's focus on the one loss teams and their prospects for playing in the National Championship game, presumably against LSU. Wait, what if LSU loses to Georgia in the SEC Championship Game? Again, let's focus on the one loss teams for now. It's easier that way

Here is a ranking of the top five one loss schools this season.

5. Boise State Broncos

Boise State could have had a shot at going to the national championship if they remained undefeated. They won big over Georgia, who is now playing for the SEC Championship. The major set back for Boise was the last minute loss to TCU. 

As of right now, Boise is sitting seventh in the BCS rankings and awaits to hear what bowl game they will play in.

4. Oklahoma State Cowboys

The Cowboys looked like they were destined for greatness until they suffered a very disappointing loss to Iowa State. They had big wins over Texas, Baylor, Texas A&M and Kansas State. The major setback for Oklahoma State was the ugly loss to Iowa State.

This loss might hurt the Cowboys because they now have to play Oklahoma. If they lose, they might fall out of the top ten. 

3. Virginia Tech Hokies

Virginia Tech has been very dominant since they moved to the ACC. This year, they got off to a good start but then lost to Clemson. The Hokies have big wins over Georgia Tech and Virginia. They'll get a second shot at Clemson, facing off with the Tigers for the ACC Championship.

They need to win this game to have a shot at going to the national championship game.

2. Stanford Cardinal

Stanford has played great football all year long. They have an 11-1 record and are currently sitting fourth in the BCS rankings. The one loss came to a very talented Oregon team. This loss really hurt the Cardinal in the rankings. 

Stanford is now going to have to sit back and wait until they find out which bowl game they will play in.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama suffered one loss all year and that came from the best team in the nation. What makes this loss extremely tough is that they lost 9-6 in overtime when they have steamrolled teams all year long.

The Crimson Tide has solid wins over Penn State, Arkansas, Florida and Auburn. They have looked extremely dominant and it is going to be tough for any team to jump them in the standings.
