Week 13 Waiver Wire: Roy Helu and Others You Must Add
As the fantasy football season winds down and injuries begin to mount, you need to remain aware of the best options available to you.
Luckily, I've got the inside scoop on three guys who should be available and can help your team out immensely if you are opportunistic and snatch them up before anyone else.
All three guys have recently been very involved and have moved up depth charts to earn starting jobs.
Check out my picks for this week's must-adds.
Roy Helu, RB, Washington Redskins
1 of 3As someone who has been on the Roy Helu bandwagon since the preseason, I was thrilled to see him finally move in as the primary ball carrier for the Redskins on Sunday. Helu rushed 23 times for 108 yards and a touchdown while adding seven catches for 54 more yards.
Helu has always had the talent and it was puzzling to many why he wasn't named the team's No. 1 running back earlier in the year. As for now, you need to grab him and start him on a weekly basis. Helu has almost unlimited upside as his combination of power, speed, hands and size are exactly what a team looks for in a starting running back.
I expect the Redskins to feed him early and often since their quarterback situation is an absolute mess. Don't expect his 30 carries from this weekend to be an aberration. He'll get the ball a lot over these next few weeks.
Harry Douglas, WR, Atlanta Falcons
2 of 3Every week, I expect Falcons receiver Harry Douglas to finally drop off his production and every week I've been wrong. Douglas caught another touchdown pass during Atlanta's 24-14 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday and, though he only finished with two catches for 45 yards, that score made him a solid fantasy points contributor.
While he may be no more than a No. 3 receiver option in your league right now, that's still valuable at this stage of the season. Over the past three games, Douglas has 14 catches for 251 yards and a touchdown. Again, those aren't monster numbers but they are great per-game averages.
When rookie Julio Jones returns to full speed (he played on Sunday but was obviously not 100 percent) the thinking is that Douglas' numbers will subside. I actually think he could snag a few touchdown catches over the next few weeks simply because Jones, Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez will be getting so much attention.
Douglas is a low-risk, high-reward pickup at this point in the season. Get him and use him.
Donald Brown, RB, Indianapolis Colts
3 of 3Trust me, I wouldn't advertise a member of the Indianapolis Colts' offense unless I really thought he could do something for you. Running back Donald Brown could be that type of late-season pickup.
The UConn product ran 14 times for 80 yards and a touchdown, while adding one 17-yard catch during his team's 27-19 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. He has now established himself as Indianapolis' No. 1 option in the backfield.
The 24-year-old needs to take advantage of that situation if he wants to save his job, since he could be in danger of being cut this offseason.
Over the past three games, Brown has 203 yards and a touchdown on 34 carries (5.97 yards per carry) and six receptions for 30 yards. While you shouldn't start him yet (unless you're in serious need at the running back spot) you should sign him, stash him and see how he fares this weekend against the New England Patriots.
