Frankie Edgar Says His Hands Are Full with Benson Henderson at UFC 144
As he prepares to make his fourth title defense, Frankie Edgar is aware that Benson Henderson will not be an easy challenge.
Edgar will meet Henderson in the main event at UFC 144, slated to take place at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan next year.
Both fighters were in attendance to promote the event in Japan earlier this week and Edgar said his opponent presents a very interesting matchup.
"He’s been on a tear since he came over from the WEC," Edgar said. "He’s beat all the top contenders, so he’s more deserving of a title shot. He’s real exciting."
Henderson has been a standout in the UFC lightweight division since transitioning from the WEC earlier this year. The former WEC lightweight champion immediately made a name for himself upon his arrival in the UFC, recording three consecutive victories over some of the top competitors at 155 pounds.
Edgar has also been through his fair share of battles during his title reign.
After defeating BJ Penn and Gray Maynard, Edgar instantly established himself as the best lightweight in the world.
Both fighters possess different styles that are equally effective, and it's what makes their matchup one of the most anticipated bouts of 2012.
Edgar knows he has his hands full with Henderson, but he'll be prepared on February 26th.
"He’s young and hungry, so I know I‘ve got my hands full,” he said. "He’s a good fighter, so I’m going to go in there and do everything I’ve got to do to win.”
