Week 13 Waiver Wire: Marion Barber and Others You Must Add

Andrea HangstNov 28, 2011

Things constantly change in the NFL, and with those changes, so too do the fortunes of individual players shift.

For example, an injury to a quarterback affects not just the quarterback himself, but also every receiver and running back on the team. Or maybe a team has turned around a losing season, bringing up the fantasy stock of its players at the same time.

That's why the waiver wire is so important, even at this late stage in the season. Injuries, team changes and players finally getting into the groove make early-season trash into late-season treasure all the time, and this year is no different.

Here are three players worth adding to your fantasy lineup for Week 13.

RB Marion Barber, Chicago Bears (vs. Kansas City Chiefs)

With Caleb Hanie starting at quarterback for the remainder of the regular season as starter Jay Cutler recovers from surgery on his broken right thumb, the Chicago Bears clearly need to stay away from passing the ball as much as possible.

Hanie completed only 50 percent of his passes against the Oakland Raiders in Week 12, resulting in two touchdowns and three interceptions in the loss.

That means that running back Marion Barber finally has some legitimate fantasy value for the coming weeks, assisting star rusher Matt Forte in carrying the team's offense. Barber had 12 rushes for 63 yards against the Raiders and has 64 carries on the year for 237 yards and five touchdowns.

With more power than Forte but less elusiveness, Barber has more value in PPR leagues than in standard-scoring leagues and might be more useful in a flex role rather than as a dedicated starting fantasy running back.

However, his carries are guaranteed to increase, and the six to 10 points he will likely give your team every week might make the difference between a win and a loss.

QB Matt Moore, Miami Dolphins (vs. Oakland Raiders)

In the past few weeks, Miami Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore has gone from a liability to an asset, completing 138 of his 219 passes for 1,607 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions.

He went 19-of-32 for 288 yards and a score in his team's Week 12 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and with good performances piling up week after week and the Oakland Raiders ahead, Moore has made a case for himself as a worthwhile fantasy starter.

Maybe your starting quarterback has had declining production lately, or perhaps he's hurt. You could certainly do worse than adding and starting Moore in Week 13, considering that the Raiders have allowed two passing touchdowns per game in nine of their last 10 outings.

WR Damian Williams, Tennessee Titans (at Buffalo Bills)

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Damian Williams has become quarterback Matt Hasselbeck's primary end zone target this season, and that's reason enough to give him a pickup off of the waiver wire this week if you're thin at the position.

Williams has 27 catches on the year, for 349 yards and five touchdowns, and had three grabs for 33 yards and a score in Week 12.

This week, the Titans take on a Bills squad that's been struggling to defend the passing game all season, most recently allowing even the struggling Mark Sanchez to throw four touchdowns in their loss to the New York Jets.

Williams should be good for 40-60 yards and a score on Sunday. If you need those points, give him a start.
