Floyd Mayweather Jr. Calls out Manny Pacquiao to Fight Him on Video

Matthew HemphillNov 28, 2011

It seems like Floyd Mayweather really wants this fight.  There were no excuses and there are no partial statements.

In a fighthype video linked here, Mayweather told Manny Pacquiao that he wanted to fight him on May 5.

He stated that he felt Pacquiao was using steroids to beat great fighters, as boxers don't suddenly improve and that he had lost to Marquez three times so he had six losses.

The fact is that Pacquiao improved over a period of years, just like all people do over their lifetime in whatever job they have chosen.  Pacquiao didn't have the long amateur career that Mayweather had and had to learn in the ring as he went along.  His early career was a learning experience, and that is why he had such mixed results in the beginning.

Since then, Pacquiao has gone on to become one of the best fighters in the world.

The other statement, that Pacquiao lost three times to Marquez, is easier to argue, and some would say it's true.  Each fight was close, and it could be said that Marquez won each outing.

In contrast, Mayweather was able to soundly beat Marquez in 2009.

It might be because of these fights, especially last Saturday's, that Mayweather is emboldened enough to call out Pacquiao.  In the past, Mayweather hasn't demanded the fight or pressed for it.  Now he says he wants to fight Pacquiao on May 5.

It could be a ruse, another tactic to keep his name at the forefront.  It could be a negotiating tactic.  It could even be the truth.

The fact is that he has never called out Pacquiao this blatantly before, and in doing so he is going to get some serious attention.

What he does once he gets it is going to be interesting to see.  Will he change his tune, or will he keep saying the same things?
