Urban Meyer to Ohio State: 5 Things We Want to Hear at Press Conference
Urban Meyer finally came out and made the announcement that everyone already knew he was going to make. He has officially said that he is going to be the next head coach at Ohio State University.
It will send a ripple effect through the entire Big Ten Conference. From a recruiting standpoint, the hiring of Meyer could sway those kids who were on the fence about which school to choose toward Ohio State.
With one of the most successful coaches in the history of college football now at Ohio State, they become a threat to win the Big Ten Championship next year.
When Meyer has his first press conference, he has to come out with some bold points. Here is what he should say in that first press conference.
That He Will Accept Any Punishment from the NCAA
1 of 5The NCAA has yet to come down on Ohio State over the investigation into the tattoos-for-game-worn-jerseys scandal. Meyer needs to come out in his first press conference and say, "I accept whatever the NCAA decides, and we will still be a great program regardless of the punishment."
That right there acknowledges the past while telling the Buckeye fan base that he is going to keep this program great, similar to what USC is doing now.
That Finishing 6-6 Will Not Be Acceptable
2 of 5Going 6-6 this year wasn't the reason that Luke Fickell wasn't brought back to coach Ohio State next year. The team could have gone 9-3 or 10-2, and Ohio State would have hired Meyer as the new head coach.
However, if he comes out at the first press conference and says, "Finishing 6-6 will never happen while I'm here," it will fire up the fan base even more for Meyer.
That He Will Bring in Multiple Top 10 Recruiting Classes
3 of 5While at Florida, Urban recruited a class that won two BCS Championships and had three BCS Bowl Game trips.
Plus, Urban brought in one of the best college players ever in Tim Tebow. Now, he may not bring in someone as good as Tebow, but he will bring in future classes that will carry Ohio State to a future national championship.
That This Current Ohio State Team Is Good Enough to Make a BCS Bowl Game
4 of 5Even with Ohio State finishing 6-6 overall and 3-5 in the Big Ten, Urban can come out and say that this team is talented enough to win the Big Ten.
Urban can say he can turn around a passing game that ranked 116th in the nation while keeping the defense playing at a high level.
If Urban can get his spread offense in with Braxton Miller as the quarterback, they have a great chance at winning the Big Ten Legends division and beating the winner of the Leaders division in the Big Ten title game.
That He Will Beat Michigan
5 of 5Urban has one thing that he has to do while at Ohio State: beat Michigan.
He can win over Buckeye Nation by laying out his intentions to beat Michigan every year that he is the head coach. When Jim Tressel was at his highest point with Ohio State, he was beating Michigan from 2003 through 2010.
Urban will come in with a lot of hype and can go 11-1 his first year. But, if that one loss is to Michigan, it will take a lot of steam out of that first year.
