NFL Power Rankings: Philadelphia Eagles and Teams That Will Play Spoiler

Donald WoodNov 28, 2011

The National Football League is full of parody, but there is no better way to quantify that parody than by examining the weekly power rankings.

Heartbreaking losses in Week 12 have turned once playoff bound teams into squads with no purpose but building for next season and playing spoiler.

Teams like the Eagles and Bills were once thought to be on a collision course with Super Bowl greatness, but will only deprive others the opportunity now.

Philadelphia Eagles—The Philadelphia Eagles were heralded as the saviors of the NFL this season, but it hasn’t panned out that way.

While the plethora of talent they signed is unquestionable, they haven’t gelled to the point of being a cohesive unit yet. They will mostly be there next season as well, so spending the rest of this season learning to play with each other and in the system will allow them to ready for next season.

All that talented playing as a team will be bad news for the remaining teams on the Eagles’ schedule.

Buffalo Bills—The Buffalo Bills have lost their last four games and six of their last eight games after starting the season with three convincing wins.

For Buffalo, there is so much talent on their team going forward that confidence has to be high. Missing the playoffs will still hurt, though.

One way to ease the pain will be making the teams that Buffalo plays in the last few weeks feel the same anguish by beating them and keeping them out of the playoff race.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers—The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished last season at 10-6. They were supposed to build on that success and translate it to this season.

One lockout later, injuries and youth have come back to bite the Buccaneers. Don’t believe me? Just look at their 4-7 record and the way they lost games early in the season.

While the early season killed Tampa Bay, the return of LeGarrette Blount to his true form should have the Buccaneers in the driver’s seat for upsets over the contenders they face in the closing weeks.
