Knicks Rumors: Jamal Crawford Should Reconsider Interest in New York Knicks
Jamal Crawford is reportedly interested in joining back up with the New York Knicks.
This would be a stupid career move.
The Knicks are absolutely loaded with scoring talent between Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony and would have no use for a ball-hogging guard who has no conscience about chucking up shots when he is on the court.
Crawford is a career 41-percent shooter and 35 percent from long range, and he averages around 15 points per game, mostly off the bench as an instant-offense type of player.
He jacks up far too many treys for his shooting percentage and averages five attempts per game, making less than two. He also dishes out just 4.4 dimes per contest, far too low a figure for someone who dominates the ball in the backcourt.
What would the Knicks do with a player like this?
Nate Robinson was banished to the bench and eventually traded for his three-point bombing, matador defense and poor passing while being a black hole for the ball in a Mike D’Antoni offense that seemingly encourages players to do these things.
It would be a waste of money and time for them, and they are far better off with Landry Fields starting and looking to pick up an amnesty-clause-casualty two-guard that can play defense, distribute and defer to Amar’e and Carmelo.
They need to use the cap space and trade pieces it would take to acquire Crawford to get a center that allows Amar’e to focus on scoring since he can’t rebound or play defense.
If Crawford is trying to head to the NYC area, he needs to look no further than the New Jersey (soon to be Brooklyn) Nets.
They have a clear lack of scoring and desperately need an all-around SG to pair with Deron Williams. Anthony Morrow is a solid role-player, but starting a three-point specialist hasn’t been working out for them.
The Knicks should pass on Crawford even if he plays for free, as he just doesn’t make sense for them.
His presence would hurt more than help the team at the juncture they are at right now.
