Steelers vs. Chiefs: Pittsburgh Picks Perfect Time to Play Worst Game of Season

Eric BallNov 28, 2011

The Pittsburgh Steelers sure picked the right time to play their worst game of the season.

Despite a plethora of mistakes and errors, they gutted out a 13-9 victory at Arrowhead Stadium against the Kansas City Chiefs and are now sitting pretty at 8-3.

The defense was playing Tyler Palko and didn't make his life a complete nightmare like most people expected. In fact, they almost gift-wrapped one of the unlikeliest comebacks of the NFL season.

Palko was straight up awful. He lost a fumble and threw three interceptions, with two of them going directly to Steeler defenders. It looked like the DBs were the intended target; all they had to do is catch it.

The defense still gave up three field goals. Ok, I know that it's always impressive to hold an NFL team under 10 points, but did you see Palko? This guy is worse than Curtis Painter.

So let's not get too excited about that performance.

The real letdown was offensively, where Ben Roethlisberger looked very rusty after last week's bye. He finished 21-of-31 for 193 yards with one TD and one INT and never was in complete control of the offense.

The Chiefs defense did a spectacular job of pressuring Big Ben, although he did do a great job of only taking one sack. The offensive line isn't doing their job in the passing game, and definitely isn't in the running game.

Rashard Mendenhall's disappointing season continues as he rushed for a mere 57 yards on 17 carries. The holes aren't there and it's killing the balance of the offense.

Yes, the Steelers won and yes they are now 8-3 and looking like a playoff lock, but this team has a fatal flaw that even the 4-7 Chiefs could exploit. Unless the offensive line shows drastic improvements in the final five games, they aren't going anywhere in January.

Sunday's win was a reminder that the Steelers are good, but not Super Bowl-worthy.
