NBA’s Perfect Pick-Ups
Every fantasy team goes through phases of constant injuries and lack of performances. Players sometimes exceed expectations and others don’t. The NBA’s Perfect Pick-Ups lists players that are still in free agency in a majority of fantasy leagues that can help improve your fantasy team tremendously and should be picked up IMMEDIATELY!
If you add these players to your squad, you've got yourself a great chance at making the playoffs and possibly winning your league. (Owned percentages are through Yahoo! Fantasy NBA).
*Mareese Speights (PF/C, PHI)- OWNED 3 Percent
Mareese Speights will get an increase in minutes for the next month due to the absence of Elton Brand and his dislocated shoulder injury. Charted at 6’10” and weighing 245lbs, Speights can instantly turn into a fantasy stud.
Suggestion: Speights will now become a regular man in the 'Sixers' rotation, producing big numbers in the re-bounding and blocks category. If you are need in need of these categories, Speights is a perfect pick-up for your fantasy team.
He is only owned in three percent of leagues and has sleeper potential written all over him. Pick him up now before someone else does!
Head coach Ed Tapscott made it clear that Mike James was going to be the starting point-guard for the Washington Wizards for the next several games to come. James dropped 16 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 33 minutes of play on Wednesday night against Detroit.
Suggestion: James put up career numbers in points (20.3), assists (5.82), rebounds (3.32), and three-pointers made (169) when being placed into the Toronto Raptors' starting lineup during the '05 season.
Mike has fantasy value whenever he gets consistent minutes of play and deserves a pick-up in any fantasy league immediately!
*Marco Belinelli (SG, GS)- OWNED 9 Percent
Marco Belinelli has really come out of nowhere this season. After SG Anthony Morrow dropped 37 points in his first career start, Marco has taken his place as the starting shooting-guard and has played rather well as of late.
Suggestion: Over Marco’s last five games he has averaged 28.2 MPG, 15.4 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 3.00 APG, and has shot 40 percent from three-point range with 10 3PTM. Marco is only owned in nine percent of leagues and continues to produce for the Golden State Warriors this season. If you are in need of three-poiniers made, he is a great pick-up for your fantasy team.
Andray Blatche (PF/C, WAS)- OWNED 16 Percent
Blatche has shown flashes of stardom over the past three years, but has received inconsistent playing time to become a solid fantasy option. Blatche was inserted into the starting lineup during Monday night’s game against the Indiana Pacers and played 33 minutes.
Suggestion: Blatche has averaged 34 minutes per game over his last two games and has put up great fantasy numbers, including a 12-point, 11-rebound, four-assist, and one block performance at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit.
If Blatche continues to steal minutes from rookie JaVale McGee he can turn into a huge fantasy sleeper this season, especially with an injured Gilbert Arenas. Blatche should be picked up in any fantasy league right away, as he can evolve into a double-double man on a nightly basis.
Mickael Pietrus (SG/SF, ORL)- OWNED 34 Percent
Pietrus had been held from action for nearly a month due to a torn ligament in his right thumb. When healthy, Mickael can contribute points, three-pointers made, and a great free throw percentage towards your fantasy team.
Suggestion: Pietrus is nearing a return within the next week and should be picked up in any fantasy league. He is averaging 28.7 minutes per game (a career high) so far this season and will continue to improve his play as a consistent fantasy contributor throughout the remainder of the year.
Jamario Moon (SF, TOR)- OWNED 56 Percent
Jamario was recently placed into the starting lineup for the Toronto Raptors and has excelled in his new role. Moon has an extreme amount of upside and can turn into a fantasy star this season.
Suggestion: Over Moon’s last five games, he has averaged 29.6 MPG, 11 PPG, 8.60 RPG, 1.20 APG, 2.00 SPG, and 1.60 BPG. He also has hit five three-pointers during that stretch.
If Jamario can continue producing the numbers he has put up over his last few games, he will keep gaining more playing time and become a great fantasy player. Since he is owned in 56 percent of leagues, pick him up right now if he is still available!
Lou Williams (PG/SG, PHI)- OWNED 18 Percent
Williams has now scored in double-figures in each of his last six games. He is starting to play more minutes and has emerged as one of the best shooters on the 'Sixers' roster. With Brand out for a month, Williams could see a slight improvement in minutes.
Suggestion: Lou Williams is the perfect pickup if you are in need of points. His season average of 10.92 points will surely increase along with his playing time. If one of your players is hurt or you just need a consistent shooter, little Lou is your man! Pick him up now as he is owned in only 18 percent of leagues.
Anderson Varejao (PF/C, CLE)- OWNED 36 percent
In every game that Varejao has played 30-plus minutes this season, he has put up double-figures in points or rebounds. At the young age of 26, Varejao is forming into an outstanding offensive and defensive player.
Suggestion: Varejao has been put into the starting lineup and has seen 30-plus minutes since Zydrunas Ilgauskas’ ankle injury. He has proven to average close to a double-double when given a solid amount of playing time and could possibly get traded before the trade deadline.
Either way, Varejao is worth owning on your fantasy team because of the great amount of upside he has.
