Updated Suck for Luck Odds

Gary DavenportNov 27, 2011

Week 12 of the 2011 NFL season is just about in the books, and while there's still a lot of football to be played before the regular season ends, the playoff picture is becoming clearer by the week.

The picture is also becoming clearer as far as which teams are in the running to have the league's worst record and secure the rights to draft Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck first overall, so here's an updated look at the ongoing battle to be the best at being the NFL's worst.

5. Jacksonville Jaguars

1 of 5

The Jacksonville Jaguars dropped to 3-8 with their loss to the Houston Texans Sunday, and while there's no denying that they're a bad team, they're also likely not bad enough to find themselves faced with an uncomfortable choice after making a significant investment in Blaine Gabbert this season.

ODDS: 100 to 1

4. Miami Dolphins

2 of 5

After a three-game winning streak, the Miami Dolphins got back to their losing ways in falling to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, but those three wins were likely enough to knock the Dolphins from contender to pretender in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.

ODDS: 80 to 1

3. Minnesota Vikings

3 of 5

Sunday's defeat at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons dropped the Minnesota Vikings to a woeful 2-9, but with quarterback Christian Ponder playing fairly well, the Vikings would be faced with a dilemma if they secured the rights to take Luck. In a way it's fortunate that they almost certainly won't.

ODDS: 50 to 1

2. St. Louis Rams

4 of 5

The St. Louis Rams are mired in a nightmarish 2011 season, falling to 2-9 after losing to the Arizona Cardinals, but the NFC West is such a bad division that the Rams may still win another game or two in spite of their best efforts.

ODDS: 25 to 1

1. Indianapolis Colts

5 of 5

Now this is what I'm talking about.

After Sunday's loss to the Carolina Panthers, the Indianapolis Colts sit at a perfectly putrid 0-11. Given how horrible the Colts are in nearly every aspect of the game, it's hard to envision a scenario where the Colts don't end up with the first overall pick.

ODDS: About as close to a lock as you can get.
