Urban Meyer Ohio State: Former Florida Coach Will Thrive with Buckeyes

All signs still point toward Urban Meyer becoming the next coach of Ohio State despite denying he's been offered the head coaching job. Assuming he does take over, he'll thrive under the pressure of running one of college football's marquee programs.

Meyer won two national championships with Florida during his six seasons with the school. He turned an already storied school into the nation's predominant destination for elite recruits before walking away after the 2010 season.

He said the decision was based on his health and family, which will lead to backlash should he sign with Ohio State. But that's a minor firestorm which will be put out before he coaches his first game.

Meyer will be asked to get Ohio State's football program back on track after a tumultuous year, including the resignation of former coach Jim Tressel.

Judging by his performance at his previous three head coaching stops, he'll be up to the task. However, the microscope will be on him like never before. That means added pressure and high expectations from fans who demand a winner.

The top priority will be recruiting. Ohio State suffered a hit after the merchandise scandal, so Meyer and his staff will need to convince Ohio's top-notch recruits that the in-state option remains the best one for them.

Once he reestablishes that pipeline, everything else should fall into place over the next year or two. He'll get a minor grace period because he wouldn't be walking into a perfect situation, which should allow him to work his magic.

While it's premature to start talking about national championship runs and potential dynasties, Ohio State fans should be excited about Meyer's potential arrival.

That's especially true if they were starting to lose faith after an uncertain season. If Meyer is willing to risk his reputation on Ohio State, the program can't be in too bad of shape.

And just like that, the sun will be shining on the Buckeyes once again.
