Eric Decker Video: Watch Amazing Catch by Broncos WR Against Chargers

David DanielsNov 27, 2011

John Fox forgot to tell Eric Decker that the Denver Broncos are running a run-first offense now.

Since Tim Tebow has taken over as the starting quarterback in Mile High, Decker’s numbers actually haven’t taken a hit since the days when Kyle Orton ran the show.  Now, that’s partly due to Decker becoming the Broncos No. 1 wide receiver after the departure of Brandon Lloyd, but still.  The former Minnesota Gopher wide out is a major key to Denver winning five out of the last six games.

Against the San Diego Chargers in week 12, Decker found himself on yet another Tebow highlight.  Down 10-13 late in the fourth quarter on 3rd and 11, Tebow’s favorite target laid out for a 39-yard bomb that set up the Broncos’ game-tying field goal.  Without his body-sacrificing snag, Denver would’ve never came back to defeat their division rival in overtime.

While Tebow will always grab the headline, Decker, Willis McGahee, Matt Praeter and the Denver defense deserve just as much or more credit for the victory.

McGahee rushed for 117 including a 24-yard scamper to set up the game-winning field goal.  Praeter hit that field goal along with two others.  Elvis Dumervil and rookie Von Miller each halted the Chargers offense on potential go-ahead scoring drives late in the game.

Decker finished the day with three catches for 65 yards and a touchdown.  On a pass-heavy team like the New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, or New Orleans Saints, Decker is talented enough to at least come close to 1,000 receiving yards over a season.  On the Broncos, though, his primary role is not to move the chains, but spread the field.

Despite his less-involved role, Decker is given the opportunity week in and week out to be the hero and he hasn’t failed yet.

Merril Hoge, Boomer Esiason, don’t look now, but the Broncos are 6-5.
