BCS Bowl Predictions: Oklahoma State Will Punch Their Ticket to the Fiesta Bowl

Austin GreenNov 27, 2011

Oklahoma State will beat rival Oklahoma this Saturday and advance to the 2012 Fiesta Bowl.

This game should be a shootout, as both teams possess high powered offenses and suspect defenses.

The Cowboys are the second highest scoring team in the nation, putting up a ridiculous 49.8 points per game. They have scored at least 59 points five times this season and even dropped 70 on Kansas in October.

Quarterback Brandon Weeden is third in the nation in passing yards (4,111) and tied for fifth in touchdowns (34).

He has the pleasure of throwing to Justin Blackmon, who is an absolute beast at the wide receiver position. The 6'1", 215 pound junior is the best receiver in college football. He ranks fifth in receptions (103), third in TD catches (15) and eleventh in receiving yards (1,241).

The Sooners gave up 40+ points in their losses to Texas Tech and Baylor, so Weeden and Blackmon should have no trouble finding the end zone.

Of course, Oklahoma has a pretty solid passing attack of their own.

Landry Jones is right behind Weeden with 4,052 yards and 28 touchdowns. He lost his top target Ryan Broyles a few weeks ago, but still has solid weapons in Kenny Stills and Jaz Reynolds.

Oklahoma State gave up 30+ points to Louisiana-Lafayette and Tulsa earlier this season, so the Sooners should be able to do the same.

This will be a high scoring affair, but I think Oklahoma State will prevail. Weeden and Blackmon will connect early and often, and the absence of Broyles will limit the Sooners.

Final Prediction: Oklahoma State 45, Oklahoma 41
