College Football Bowl Predictions: 5 Teams You Shouldn't Bet on to Get BCS Bids
The BCS selection is a cruel process that is not fair to a lot of teams, as the top 14 teams in the final BCS Standings can be selected as an at-large bid for the Orange, Sugar or Fiesta bowl.
There will only be two or three spots open for an at-large bid to be given out for those three bowl games. If Georgia can upset LSU in the SEC Championship game, that takes away an at-large bid to a team like Boise State.
If Oklahoma can upset Oklahoma State to win the Big 12 championship, then that at-large number goes from two to one.
For these teams on this list, they better hope that there aren't any upsets that will shake up the final BCS Standings.
Kansas State Wildcats
1 of 5Kansas State should finish the year at 10-2 and in the Top 10 of the final BCS Standings. However, they will be passed over when it comes to giving out the at-large bids.
Their weakness is because they do not have the same following as a team like Michigan, and they will not have a better record than one-loss teams like Boise State or Stanford.
Boise State Broncos
2 of 5Boise State has come to see their BCS dreams die again because of a missed field goal. They will finish this year in the Top 10 of the final BCS Standings. And they will be ahead of the undefeated Houston Cougars in that final BCS Standings.
However, because they do not automatically qualify because of finishing second in the Mountain West Conference, despite their high ranking they will get passed over for a BCS school like Stanford.
Or the Broncos will be left out of a BCS bowl game if Oklahoma State loses in their final game of the year.
Michigan Wolverines
3 of 5Michigan currently sits on the outside of the Top 14 of the BCS Standings. However, once the final standings come out, because of losses to Michigan State or Wisconsin they should finish the year at No. 14 in the standings.
However, it's not guaranteed that the Wolverines will finish at No. 14.
If Michigan State, Georgia and Oklahoma all win their final games, it should do little to drop a team below 14th for Michigan to move up.
However, if only Michigan State and Georgia wins and Oklahoma loses in a close game, it may not be enough for the Sooners to get dropped from No. 9 past No. 14.
Clemson Tigers
4 of 5No more than three weeks ago it seemed like Clemson was a lock to make a BCS bowl game. Now they have to beat Virginia Tech to get an automatic bid into a BCS game.
When the Tigers beat the Hokies earlier in the year, they did it by shutting down Virginia Tech's passing game. However, that was when Clemson's defense was playing at a high level—unlike now.
The Tigers defense is coming into this game after giving up 30-plus points in their last two games, losing both. Clemson hasn't had any answers in fixing their team. It seems like it's been a long time since Clemson was undefeated at 8-0.
Oklahoma Sooners
5 of 5Oklahoma can get into the Fiesta Bowl, but only if they can upset Oklahoma State on Saturday. However, this Sooners team will not be able to keep up with the Cowboys and their explosive passing attack.
Since losing their leader in wide receiver Ryan Broyles, they are 1-1 with a crushing loss at Baylor. That loss against Baylor and their loss against Texas Tech saw Oklahoma get ripped for over 400 passing yards.
Against Oklahoma State and their No. 2 passing game that is averaging 400 yards per game, they will get shredded for their third loss on the year.
