Very Intesting Side Picked by South Africa For ODI's in Australia
After the heroic test win at the WACA yesterday, South Africa have named a very strong yet, inexperienced side to take on the Aussies in the ODI series to follow.
There are three new caps, including Lonwabo Tsotsobe who is currently in Australia doing duty as a reserve. Last year's Under 19 captain Wayne Parnell (pictured), a quick left arm fast bowler and a very attacking batsman in Vaughn Van Jaarsveld. He is a left hander and the no boundaries are too big for him. He is also a brilliant fielder. Pretty much in the same mould as AB De Villiers.
Tsotsobe had a good warm up match against Western Australia at the start of the tour, making him an option to make his test debut at the WACA. He missed out as the selectors went with their tried and tested bowling attack. He is a very accurate left arm bowler and can push the 135 kph mark. The man from the Warriors in Port Elizabeth is a very weak batter but he is not selected to bat. He can be a handful of an out of form Aussie line up.
Parnell (also Warriors) had a slow start to the domestic season but in the last few games he has come to the party. On Friday night in Durban he bowled a great spell going for 32 in nine overs and taking four wickets.
I was present to watch the effort and although in a losing cause he can hold his head up high for a top class performance. He is a raw talent and is still only 19 years old but in the future an attack consisting of him and Dale Steyn when Ntini finally hangs up his boots will be a handful.
Van Jaarsveld (Lions in Johannesburg) is the highest run scorer in the Domestic season plying eight games and getting past 50 seven times. Most of the time he got it in quicker than run a ball. This man can be compared to Yuvraj Singh for his attacking prowess. This man deserves his chance to be in the side and has been considered unlucky in the past not to make it.
He can be very dangerous in the two 20/20 games between the two sides in mid-January. Added to his batting skills, his fielding is excellent and fully deserves his place in the side.
Makhaya Ntini gets a recall after he missed the series' against Bangladesh and Kenya. Herschelle Gibbs returns after his alcohol rehabilitation course. Hashim Amla is also still in the side.
Full squad to play Australia in the ODI Series:
