Bowl Projections: Oklahoma State and Houston Is Ideal Fiesta Bowl Matchup

Nicholas GossNov 27, 2011

If you love exciting and high scoring games, you want Oklahoma State and Houston to play each other in the Fiesta Bowl in January.

The undefeated Cougars deserve a spot in a BCS bowl game and the Fiesta Bowl is a likely destination for them. Under the current BCS format, the Fiesta bowl normally selects the Big 12 champion as well.

These two teams score more points and pass for more yards than anyone in the country. This certainly would be the most exciting matchup of the bowl season.

The Cougars lead the nation with 449.7 passing yards and 52.7 points scored per game, while the Cowboys are second in the country with 401.6 passing yards and 49.6 points scored per game.

Not only would this matchup a high scoring affair, the nation would get to see two of the best quarterbacks in America battle.

Cougars quarterback Case Keenum has thrown 43 touchdown passes with only three interceptions. That is an incredible ratio. I don't care what kind of teams you play every week or what quality teammates you have, that stat line is unbelievable.

Keenum is a Heisman Trophy candidate and should get serious consideration for the award. After all, the Heisman is given to the most outstanding player in college football, and Keenum certainly fits that description.

Brandon Weeden has been similarly great for the Cowboys, and has thrown for 34 touchdowns with 12 interceptions.

Weeden and elite wide receiver Justin Blackmon are the best QB/WR duo in America, and it is really fun to watch these two players connect on big plays.

Blackmon will be a top 10 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, and is one of the most talented players in the country.

Houston has scored over 50 points six times this season, including two 70-plus point performances. Oklahoma State is also a very high scoring team, but the their defense isn't great.

The Cougars and Cowboys would play a high scoring but competitive game in the Fiesta Bowl, and as a college football fan you want these two teams to play each other.
