BCS Bowl Predictions: Oklahoma Not Worthy of At-Large Berth
On December 3, we'll have Bedlam. But when Oklahoma and Oklahoma State take the field in Stillwater, the Sooners will need to win far more than the Cowboys.
Presently, Alabama is on the right end of a blowout vs. Auburn. LSU is the only undefeated team from a BCS conference. They do have a potential obstacle vs. Georgia next week. But really, even if the Tigers lose, the National Championship Game has to be Alabama vs. LSU.
So, at 10-1, Oklahoma State belongs in the BCS picture. Should Oklahoma defeat them, it would make the Sooners the Big 12 champions, but Oklahoma State would easily be worthy of a BCS at-large bid.
The same isn't true for Oklahoma. As talented as they are, the Sooners are 9-2 with two rather inexcusable losses.
So, while Oklahoma's schedule is also loaded with impressive wins, they just haven't done enough to get into a BCS game without winning their conference. There is no shortage of teams with one or two losses that would easily belong. A 9-3 Sooners team just wouldn't belong. Frankly, no team at 9-3 belongs in the BCS, unless they win their conference.
Those losses to Texas Tech and Baylor are just unforgivable. I know that Baylor has a good record, but they only go through Robert Griffin III. There is no way that a team with Oklahoma's depth should have been anywhere close to Baylor, let alone actually losing to them.
Oklahoma State is in far better position. They don't need to beat Oklahoma. The Cowboys have been quite impressive all season. If you look below, they would be a natural choice to take the place of Michigan, or Stanford (if they lose to Notre Dame).
The Sooners have simply not done enough. It would be a massive disappointment this season if they didn't even make a BCS Bowl, but they are right on the brink.
Still, the season's not over. If they beat Oklahoma State, the Sooners automatically qualify. If they don't, a rather frustrating season will be complete.
