NBA Trade Rumors: Golden State Warriors Need to Move Monta Ellis

The Golden State Warriors were prepared to a make a move sending shooting guard Monta Ellis elsewhere, but it fell through before the trade deadline last season.

With the return of the NBA via the lifting of the lockout, the trade rumors can start swirling again. Hold onto your hats.

The following list consists of likely targets for the Warriors when the shortened offseason officially kicks off.

Andre Iguodala

The Philadelphia 76ers have been able to utilize every one of their players under new head coach Doug Collins. All except one.

Andre Iguodala doesn’t fit into the defense first mentality of Collins, especially when Iguodala can’t hit a shot to save his life.

While Ellis won’t play much defense, he will be the offensive spark plug that the team didn’t have last season.

Dwight Howard

The idea of Dwight Howard being traded has been discussed for every single team over the last season or so.

The athletic center becomes a free agent after this season and the Orlando Magic will not let the star walk without getting anything in return.

If Howard doesn’t sign an extension this offseason, you should expect a deal, possibly with Golden State, to happen fairly quickly.

Rudy Gay

The Memphis Grizzlies made a serious run last season without Rudy Gay in the lineup, so moving him doesn’t seem as catastrophic as it once did.

While Rudy Gay may be a better all-around player than Monta Ellis, it will be Ellis’ shooting abilities that the Grizzlies will appreciate the most.

Gay will be the defensively responsible player that the Warriors have lacked over the last few years as well.
