12 NFL Athletes That Would Dominate in Other Sports

David LevinNov 28, 2011

Big, strong and agile. Like a gazelle running through a field. Maybe a caged lion looking to get out.

These things make pro football players the best athletes in the world today.

They can withstand punishment, dish it out and run at speeds we would never think of.

To borrow a cliche', their motors are always running.

And they probably could be good at whatever they chose to compete in, and that includes other sports.

These football players would excel no matter what the game is, the competition or the stakes.

They are just that good.

Antonio Gates

1 of 12

Another former basketball player who found his way to the NBA.

Gates was a college basketball star but sought fame and fortune catching passes in the NFL.

What is the Chargers gain is definitely the NBA's loss.

Tom Zbikowski

2 of 12

Zbikowski is a defensive back for the Baltimore Ravens, but he has dabbled in boxing as well.

He was an amateur fighter while in college at Notre Dame.

I wouldn't cross him if I were you.

Tim Tebow

3 of 12

He is an athlete first and a quarterback or NFL starter second.

Tebow is big, thick, muscular and athletic and probably could play baseball and be successful as a third baseman or a DH.

He has raw power in his arms to be a home run threat.

Josh Scobee

4 of 12

Scobee is a scratch golfer. He has attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open Golf Championship in the past.

While the Jaguars depend on Scobee's leg and he is one of the most important players on the team, having a sport as a backup is a cool thing when the Jaguars are still going through growing pains.

Danny Woodhead

5 of 12

He is the modern day "Rudy" of the NFL.

Woodhead just keeps going and going.

His size and compact frame would make him a hit in professional soccer. And because he takes a licking and keeps moving, maybe hockey is more his thing.

Jared Allen

6 of 12

He is big, fast and can overpower his opponents in seconds.

He also has massive arms and upper body strength. He could be a Jim Thome-type in professional baseball as a DH.

Chad Ochocinco

7 of 12

He was a swimmer in Miami and already tried out for MLS.

Ochocinco is a tall and lanky athlete, but his agility and speed make him ideal for many sports.

Tony Gonzalez

8 of 12

He was a gifted basketball player out of California.

As a tight end with his size, he would be a great power forward.

I am sure he still has a soft touch on his jump shot.

Ndomukong Suh

9 of 12

It looks like he might already be trying out for MMA with all the hoopla he has caused by his aggressive play.

Suh would move the opponent around the ring and just beat the hell out of him.

Julio Jones

10 of 12

Anyone who runs a 40 time with a broken foot and is fleet fast has to be natural for track and field.

Jones could be an Olympic champion if given the opportunity.

He displays his speed and agility each week on the track that is the Georgia Dome.

Devin Hester

11 of 12

This guy was born to run.

Could you see him at the 4x400 relay in the Olympics or some other track and field event?

He would be running and running.

Hester is just a stick of dynamite once the ball is in his hands. It could work the same way with a baton.

Tony Romo

12 of 12

Romo has made his love of playing golf quite clear.

He has tried to qualify for the U.S. Open, and it would appear he is good enough to have a career on the tour after he hangs up his cleats.

I wonder if he will be as big of an enigma on the links as he is on the field.
