Tyrann Mathieu Video: Watch the Honey Badger Bring His Team Back from the Dead
Things weren't looking great for No. 1 LSU. Sure, they scored a touchdown to immediately answer Alonzo Highsmith's 47-yard fumble recovery, but were still on the wrong end of a 14-7 score.
That's when things changed, and changed in a big way, thanks to Tyrann Mathieu.
In addition to having by far the best nickname in all of sports, the Honey Badger is also one of the best players in the country.
In October, ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit said that he would give the Heisman Trophy to Mathieu. After watching this video, it seems clear that Herbstreit at least has a valid argument.
Wow.
Notice something. While he did have to break a slight tackle after catching the ball, there wasn't a lot of juking and jiving here. No, this was pure speed, which can't be taught.
Mathieu got a little bit of a hole and burst through it.
And while this would be a great play in any circumstances, consider the game. The winner of this game will be in the driver's seat to make the National Championship Game. Heck, LSU pretty much punches their own ticket with a win, even if they lose the SEC Championship Game.
The game is certainly a long way from being over, but that play turned the tide completely in LSU's favor. The ensuing PAT tied the game. Before you could blink, LSU had the lead, 100 percent of the momentum and the fans at Death Valley were fully invested.
That's what you call a game changer. That's what you call a title changer.
Best for LSU is that Mathieu is just a sophomore. Technically, he could be around for two more years.
