Spread
Steelers: minus-10.5, according to footballlocks.com. Even on the road, Pittsburgh should be able to cover against the depleted Chiefs.
Over/Under
Forty, according to footballlocks.com. With the Steelers having been held under 30 in four of their last five games, the under is the pick here.
Key Injuries (via NFL.com)
Kansas City QB Matt Cassel (hand), out for season
Kansas City DE Glenn Dorsey (knee), limited practice Thursday
Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisberger (thumb), full practice Thursday
Pittsburgh LB LaMarr Woodley (hamstring), limited practice Thursday
Fantasy Big Plays
Kansas City RB Jackie Battle, who had been a valuable waiver-wire pickup for many fantasy owners, is a must-bench against the Steelers’ sixth-ranked run defense.
Pittsburgh RB Rashard Mendenhall hasn’t been the most consistent fantasy back, but he’s worth a start in a game that should see plenty of clock-killing by the Steelers’ offense.
Keys to Pittsburgh Win
The Steelers have to avoid beating themselves here, especially Ben Roethlisberger against a KC secondary that’s had a couple of monster interception totals on the year.
On defense, the Steelers’ usual diet of confusing looks and blitzes should let them force multiple turnovers against inexperienced QB Tyler Palko.
Keys to Kansas City Win
Palko has to hold onto the ball, no mean feat against this defense. If the Chiefs can open some holes for Jackie Battle, their best hope is to play ball control and keep Roethlisberger off the field.
Prediction
It will take a miracle for Kansas City even to make this game competitive. Look for Palko to turn it over at least twice by halftime, and for the Pittsburgh defense to score almost as many points as the Kansas City offense.
