Hulk Hogan Owes Lawyers an Atomic Leg Drop After Terrible Divorce Settlement

Mike ChiariNov 25, 2011

There is absolutely no question that Hulk Hogan is the most iconic name in the history of wrestling. He has conquered larger-than-life characters like Andre the Giant inside the ring, but when it comes to the court room he lost a virtual squash match to ex-wife Linda Bollea.

The couple had been married since 1983, but settled on a divorce in 2009. That settlement wasn't immediately apparent, but the St. Petersburg Times reports that Linda received 70 percent of the couple's liquid assets, amounting to $7.44 million held in bank and investment accounts.

If that wasn't enough, Linda will also receive 40 percent ownership in the Hulkster's many business ventures. That is, in addition to three million dollars for a property settlement and a number of expensive vehicles, including a Mercedes-Benz, a Cadillac Escalade, a Corvette and a Rolls-Royce.

Hogan has been the breadwinner for decades, and while I realize that Linda is entitled to assets without the benefit of a pre-nuptial agreement, it is mind-boggling that she was able to swing getting the majority of the couple's liquid assets rather than half at the most.

I'm not sure about the logistics of the situation, but the only thing I can figure is that Linda's legal team blew the Hulkster's out of the water. For comparison's sake, in a Survivor Series four-on-four elimination tag match, Linda's team would have been akin to Shawn Michaels, The Rock, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and The Undertaker.

Hulk's was more like Barry Horowitz, The Brooklyn Brawler, Special Delivery Jones and "Iron" Mike Sharpe. In other words, it was no contest. What makes matters worse is that Hogan essentially paid for the legal team that destroyed him in court.

Despite what some may say, I don't think Hogan is crippled financially as he certainly still gets paid royalties for the use of his likeness and stars in about a million Rent-a-Center commercials with Troy Aikman. However, based on principle, he got absolutely hosed in the settlement.

I don't want to speculate about what Linda did in terms of work during the time she was married to Hogan. However, I think it would be safe to assume that she didn't have to do much with Hogan making as much as he did over the course of his wrestling career, both in and out of the ring.

As a result, there is no way she should have got any more than half of the pie, yet she somehow found a way to get 70 percent. Whenever he was faced with adversity in the past, Hogan would simply Hulk up, drop the atomic leg drop and celebrate to the tune of "Real American."

I guess that just goes to show you that no monstrous professional athlete is any match for a woman scorned and her money-grubbing legal team.
