Packers vs. Lions: Why Aaron Rodgers Is Guaranteed to Shine on Thanksgiving

Ryan PhillipsNov 24, 2011

Aaron Rodgers may be in the midst of the greatest season a quarterback has ever had. On Thanksgiving in front of a national audience, expect him to continue to show why he is the league's MVP.

Through 10 games this season, Rodgers has completed 238 of 329 passes for 3,168 yards, with a league-high 31 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He currently leads the NFL in touchdown passes, completion percentage (72.3), yards per attempt (9.63) and quarterback rating (128.8). In fact, his passer rating is an astounding 26.3 points higher than second place (Tom Brady, 102.5). That's just plain ridiculous.

Rodgers will be leading his 10-0 Packers against the 7-3 Detroit Lions on Thursday. While Detroit certainly presents a formidable challenge for Green Bay, I don't know if anyone could stop Rodgers and his wealth of offensive weapons.

The Lions currently have the NFL's fifth-best pass defense, allowing 192.8 yards per game. But even with that said, can any team really stop the Packers? I mean, Rodgers has completed 20 or more passes to six different receivers. He has a receiving corps that goes five deep with Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, James Jones, Donald Driver and Randall Cobb, plus tight end Jermichael Finley. How do you defend against that?

The simple fact is that Rodgers is too good and has too many good players surrounding him to expect any defense in the NFL to have success stopping him. Rodgers' has posted a quarterback rating of 111.4 or higher in every game this season. Again, that's just plain ridiculous.

Thanksgiving day will be no different. Nothing has slowed Rodgers to this point in the season and while the Lions are a very solid team, they won't shut him or the Packers down on Thursday.
