LSU Football: Why Les Miles Should Speak Out Against the BCS System

I’m sick of hearing from coaches that are being screwed by the BCS. I want to hear from a coach that is benefiting from it.

No. 1-ranked LSU is experiencing absolutely zero BCS controversy this season and shouldn’t have any qualms about the current system. This is the luxury that comes with being undefeated in the SEC.

That’s why head coach Les Miles should take this opportunity to really lash out at the current system.

Hearing the same tired excuses from Boise State, Oregon, Alabama and other teams doesn’t have nearly the same effect because of their self-interests. Of course they don’t like a system that denies them from a better spot in the postseason for this specific year.

If the No. 1-ranked school complains, then it might actually get the attention of the NCAA Committee.

It’s not like Les Miles is some schmuck head coach, either. He was the Oklahoma State coach for four years and has been at LSU for the last seven. Dating back to his days as an offensive lineman at Michigan, Miles has been involved with the sport for the better part of the last 35 years. That gives him a lot more credibility than a guy like Boise State coach Chris Peterson, who has only been a head coach for six seasons.

Why not tell the world you think it’s idiotic to give Alabama a rematch after winning on their home field once already? Why not talk about how incredibly important every game is, even with a playoff system implemented? Why not say his team wants to play No. 8 Houston in the championship because they are the only other perfect team in the sport?

There are plenty of opinions on how the postseason should be in college football, but 99 percent of them fall on deaf ears.

Miles’ opinions would be part of that other one percent.
