Javier Hernández: Top 10 Moments (with Video)

Karla Villegas GamaNov 24, 2011

Javier Chicharito Hernández is the striker that has conquered the heart of hundreds of Manchester United fans, but he has also made a whole country proud.

His humility and personality match perfectly with his talent and sense of goal. He's the kind of forward that knows where to be in the exact moment.

Since he started playing for Chivas de Guadalajara to his first World Cup in South Africa 2010, and his eventual agreement with the Red Devils, Javier has demonstrated his passion and compromise.

Therefore, it's only fair to put together a video slideshow to review his top 10 moments.

10. 1st Goal in a World Cup

1 of 10

Javier had a shot to emulate his grandfather's feat. In the 1954 World Cup, Tomás Balcázar was part of El Tri, who played against France in the group stage.

Balcázar scored at the 85th minute at age 22, while his grandson did so at the 64th, also at the group stage and at the same age. It was Chicharito's first goal in a World Cup, but most importantly, he gave Mexico hope to qualify to the round of 16.

9. The 9th Mexican to Have Scored at Least Twice in a World Cup

2 of 10

Before Javier, only eight Mexican footballers had scored at least two goals in a World Cup. The last one was Omar Bravo, who did so in Germany 2006 in front of Iran.

Chicharito started the game against Argentina in the round of 16. When everything pointed out to a 3-0 Argentinian victory, Hernández used his speed and left in the way a couple of defenders to score the only Mexican goal in style.

8. Manchester United Presentation

3 of 10

The first Mexican to sign with Manchester United. That was the headline of Mexican newspapers and the comments of anchors when it was time to talk about Chicharito's new deal.

But it wasn't until his first interview, with Stewart Gardner, hit the TV shows that it became real for football fans and specialists.

Hernández spoke in English and shared his thoughts on signing with the team he qualifies as the best in the world.

7. 1st Official Manchester United Goal

4 of 10

He had already scored wearing the Manchester United uniform, but he did it during the offseason. So when Javier came in for Ji Sung Park in the second half of the Community Shield final, Mexican fans went nuts.

But it would be 21 minutes later when Hernández made a whole country proud. He kicked the ball while he was falling, it hit his face and went straight to the net. It would be the first of many unusual goals by Chicharito.

6. 1st UEFA Champions League Goal

5 of 10

After his goal at the Community Shield, Hernández played four games, but he couldn't score once.

Nonetheless, Sir Alex Ferguson gave him a vote of confidence and used him in the Champions League, when United visited Spain, to face Valencia. Chicharito came in for Anderson at the 77th minute, when the score was 0-0.

Eight minutes later, Javier took advantage of a cross from Federico Macheda to gave United the victory. With his goal, Hernández became the seventh Mexican to score in the Champions.

5. The Back Header Goal

6 of 10

One of Javier's most remembered goals came in 2010, when Manchester United visited Stoke City.

Nani sent a cross, Vidic nodded, but the ball resulted in a pass to Chicharito, who wasn't facing Sorensen but still tried to make contact with the ball.

The result? A very unusual back header that opened the score at the 27th minute. It would be the first of two goals by the Mexican striker, the first time he scored twice in the same game.

Moreover, it was nominated as one of the top goals of the 2010/2011 season by Manchester United.

4. Fastest Personal Goal

7 of 10

Manchester United faced Chelsea in the 36th date of the 2010/2011 season. It was a key match, since the Blues were three points behind the Red Devils.

Chicharito was playing his fifth game against Chelsea, a team that had already received two goals by the Mexican striker, one in the Community Shield and another in the Champions quarterfinals second leg.

It was only proper for Hernández to score his last goal of the season against the team he scored his first official goal.

Javier showed why he was the fastest player in the 2010 World Cup, according to FIFA, and received a pass by Park, sending the ball to the end of the net in just 36 seconds of play.

It was the fastest goal of the English Premier League so far and a personal record for him.

3. 1st Coke Zero Commercial

8 of 10

The first ad that Hernández did with Coca-Cola Zero was one of the biggest events in Mexico. Sports magazines, websites and newspapers published the story.

In the spot, Javier tells his story: How he left Guadalajara as a local hero to pursue his dream in Manchester, despite making sacrifices and learning new traditions.

Chicharito was also part of a campaign to change the world's view of Mexico after the anchors of Top Gear made unfortunate comments towards a Mexican sports car.

2. CONCACAF Gold Cup

9 of 10

Hernández had seven goals in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, including his first hat trick (against El Salvador). This landed him the Golden Boot, and he was named MVP of the tournament.

Chicharito managed to score in four of the six games El Tri disputed and helped the team to advance to the final stage, where it defeated the USA 4-2.

1. Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year

10 of 10

When Manchester United's season was over, it was time to celebrate the annual awards. Hernández was nominated for Goal of the Season and had a shot, as all the first team members, to win the Fans' Player of the Year.

The Mexican was considered the best by the team's supporters, a decision that was fair and pretty much obvious, considering that outside Old Trafford, some merchants sell sombreros, something that had never happened before.

Another pointer were the stands, green/white/red scarfs, sombreros, caps and other products with the nickname and face of Hernández.
