2012 NFL Mock Draft: Which Teams Need Young Blood at QB?

Chris TrapassoNov 25, 2011

Quarterbacks win football games. Not defenses, running backs or flashy wide receivers.

Check the last, say, eight Super Bowls.

Any "bad" quarterbacks in those games?

Not a one.

We've all heard of the "Trent Dilfer" or "Brad Johnson" exception, but in today's pass-happy NFL, to be successful a team must have a poised and accurate leader behind center calling the shots.

These are the teams that desperately need young blood at their quarterback position because the guys they have on the roster right now are simply not good enough.

Indianapolis Colts

As if this isn't obvious enough.

Who knows if Peyton Manning will ever play another snap in the NFL and even if he does, he'll be 36 before the start of next season.

Curtis Painter has been pretty bad this season and obviously isn't the future at quarterback.

Maybe this one guy from Stanford would help?

Luck, I think his name is.

Washington Redskins

Mike Shanahan has a great track record, led the Broncos to two Super Bowl titles, is an offensive mastermind.

We know.

But was he really content with Rex Grossman or John Beck as his starting quarterback this season?

No way.

He really had no other options, however.

Neither of those two are of starting-caliber and some youth is in dire need in our nation's capital.

The Donovan McNabb-experiment didn't work last year and not surprisingly Grossman and Beck weren't able to revitalize their careers in 2011.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs have loads of money still tied up in Matt Cassel, but it's safe to say they aren't winning any playoff games with him behind center.

He had flukey season in 2010 and then we've seen the real Cassel this season.

Not bad, but far from great.

Maybe KC can go a few more years with Cassel as their starter, but he'll be 30 before the start of next season and just landed on IR with a severe injury to his hand.

Will they pick high enough to select Landry Jones or Robert Griffin III?

Maybe Matt Barkley will declare for the draft.
