Georgia vs. Georgia Tech: Latest Spread Info, BCS Impact and Predictions

Donald WoodNov 23, 2011

There is nothing better than in-state rivalries, especially when both teams are ranked in the BCS standings. That’s what we have when Georgia travels to Georgia Tech this Saturday.

While both teams have the season on the line, the Georgia Bulldogs have a legitimate chance at gaining a serious bowl big with a victory over Tech. This should be a war.

Betting Line: Over/Under: 54.5, Spread: Georgia Tech +6

This game is going to be an absolute battle, and I’d have to agree with the oddsmakers on these lines. While I would stay away from wagering on this game because it could go either way if I had to bet, I would take the under and take Georgia Tech +6. It’s going to be very close.

BCS/Top 25 Implications

With Georgia being ranked No. 13 and Georgia Tech No. 23 in the nation, this matchup is dripping with BCS ramifications. If Georgia wins, they place their bid for a serious bowl consideration, but if Georgia Tech wins they both crush the Bulldogs dreams and ensure a spot in the top 15. Maybe even a bowl rematch between the two.

What They’re Saying

Georgia Tech secondary coach Charles Kelly told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about Georgia’s John Mackey Award finalist tight end Orson Charles:

"

"He’s a tremendous athlete. He’s got really good size, he runs like a wide receiver, adjusts to the ball well. They can put him in position where he creates mismatches at times."

"

Yellow Jackets running back Embry Peeples told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about starting quarterback Tevin Washington’s success last week:

"

"I think it was really Tevin reading. They were trying to slow play him (force him to keep the ball), but he could kind of get close enough to them where they had to attack and he could just kick it out."

"

Key Matchup: Tevin Washington vs. Georgia’s Defense

Something has to give in this matchup. Georgia has the 11th ranked defense in the nation in terms of points given up per game, while Georgia Tech and dual threat quarterback Tevin Washington boast the second best rushing attack with 323 yards per game.

Prediction: Georgia 24, Georgia Tech 21
