20 Most Awesome Shootout and Penalty Shot Moves in Hockey History (with Video)

Keegan McNallyNov 23, 2011

Ever since the shootout was implemented, highlight reel goals have been flying onto people's televisions almost every night.

Sometimes it is big name players like Peter Forsberg and Zach Parise dazzling audiences. Other times, it is unexpected shooters like Matt Hendricks and Marek Malik pulling off moves that have you jumping out of your seat.

Nazem Kadri

1 of 20

Let's start it off with a good old fashioned shake and bake.

Nazem Kadri fools the goalie from backhand to forehand in this video.

Matt Hendricks

2 of 20

Alright, one more shake and bake.

Matt Hendricks is simply a monster during the shootouts, mostly because of moves like this.

James Neal

3 of 20

Just when you think he's done, James Neal pots this one in from an impossible angle.

Did I mention it was against Martin Brodeur?

Alex Ovechkin

4 of 20

Alex Ovechkin isn't known for being a particularly good shootout or penalty shot specialist.

He was zero for five in his career in penalty shots before this goal.

Zach Parise

5 of 20

When you consider the fact that Parise just deked a Vezina Trophy candidate out of his pants, it makes this move pretty spectacular.

Linus Omark

6 of 20

Absolutely dirty, as the video title suggests.

Mike Ribeiro

7 of 20

This goal has everything.

Backhand to forehand to in-between the legs madness leaves Peter Budaj utterly confused.

Niklas Lindberg

8 of 20

One hand on the stick, and he slides it past the goaltender.

Absolutely perfect hands by Lindberg creates a perfect shootout goal.

Steven Stamkos

9 of 20

Wait...how did this get here?

Steven Stamkos Part 2

10 of 20

There we go; that's the right one.

Absolutely brilliant spin-o-rama goal by Stamkos here on the penalty shot.

Sam Gagner

11 of 20

With his first shootout goal, Gagner dazzles.

It dazzled so much that the move has been dubbed "The Gagner."

Patrick Kane

12 of 20

Kane may have stole Gagner's move, but he certainly didn't disappoint with this beauty.

Rick Nash

13 of 20

Rick Nash certainly showed off his balance with this shootout winner against the Ducks.

Just think of what Nash could do if he played for a team that actually had a chance of making the playoffs.

Peter Forsberg

14 of 20

This goal is vintage Forsberg. We've all seen this move pulled off many times by Peter the Great.

This move has sparked many copies like...

Mikael Granlund

15 of 20

This move is clean and sweet, but also nasty and just downright unfair for the goaltender.

Loui Eriksson

16 of 20

It is one thing to pull off a move in a shootout.

It is a completely different ballgame when you have the courage to do it during a penalty shot when you don't have your teammates to take shots after you or your goaltender to bail you out if you miss.

Ryan Strome

17 of 20

Words can't describe the puck control Strome demonstrated in this video.

Absolutely sensational is all I can come up with.

Marek Malik

18 of 20

"Not a noted goal-scorer, but he'll give it a try here..."

The famous last words of the announcer in this video.

Benout Pouliot

19 of 20

The last "Forsberg" goal, I swear.

This one is just too good to leave out, as Pouliot sneaks it by the goalie here.

Mikhail Grabovski

20 of 20

This may go down as one of the greatest shootout goals ever.

Just when you think you've seen it all, Grabovski switches back to the forehand.

I scoured for awhile to find these gems, but I almost certainly missed some.

If you think you have found a better one than any of the ones here, post it in the comments!

Thanks for watching.
