NFL Week 12 Picks: Quarterback to Record the Most Passing Yards on Thanksgiving

Jeff GrantNov 23, 2011

The NFL Thanksgiving schedule is one of the best in recent memory and Las Vegas sports books are primed for a major weekend.

Oddsmakers are definitely trying to cash in by offering numerous proposition wagers that aren't normally available during a regular round of action.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is currently the third choice in the early wagering, something that could certainly change when Week 12 kicks off Thursday.

Let's take a closer look at the six signal-callers who will start under center from a betting perspective.

Alex Smith, San Francisco 49ers QB

1 of 6

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith offers the longest odds in this category, coming in averaging just 197.6 passing yards per game.

The former No. 1 pick out of Utah has averaged 164.6 passing yards on the road in 34 games—a statistic that will cause him to draw minimal action at the betting windows.

He also faces a secondary that ranks seventh in the league in giving up just 211.3 yards per game through the air.

Betting Odds: 15/1

Matt Moore, Miami Dolphins QB

2 of 6

Miami Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore has led the team to three straight wins and will look to spoil the Thanksgiving Day party inside Cowboys Stadium Thursday.

Moore isn't known for putting up gaudy statistics through the air, but may end up throwing more than usual if the team falls behind.

I doubt his season-high of 244 passing yards is going to measure up against the other five players in this field.

Odds: 12/1

Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens QB

3 of 6

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco offers the best value in this category, averaging 257.6 passing yards per game this season.

With the likelihood of running back Ray Rice being bottled up by the 49ers' top-ranked rush defense, offensive coordinator Cam Cameron may take to the air.

Definite player.

Odds: 11/2

Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys QB

4 of 6

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has an opportunity to take center stage Thursday afternoon, coming off a solid 292-yard, three-touchdown performance against the Washington Redskins.

The 31-year-old will be dropping back versus a Miami Dolphins secondary that's ranked 25th in the league in allowing 251.3 passing yards per game.

He's due for a 300-yard performance—last going over that total on the road against the New England Patriots on Oct. 16.

Odds: 7/2

Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions QB

5 of 6

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is going to get some attention in this offering due to throwing 99 combined passes in the past two weeks.

Due to injuries, the third-year player has faced the Green Bay Packers just once in his career, throwing for 213 yards and a touchdown with four interceptions on Thanksgiving Day in 2009.

He will look to make that performance a distant memory on Thursday inside Ford Field.

Odds: 2/1

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers QB

6 of 6

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the established favorite for many reasons, coming in with 3,168 passing yards and 31 touchdowns with just four interceptions.

Surprisingly enough, he's managed to throw below the 300-yard mark in the last three games, but will likely snap that streak Thursday in playing indoors.

In 12 career games inside domed stadiums, last year's Super Bowl MVP has averaged 281.3 passing yards.

That figure is 33 yards better than his career average.

Odds: 6/5
